What Should We Do To Achieve Optimal Health

By Susan Carey

If you really want to achieve optimal health, you have got to get a move on, at least a couple of times per week. There is little argument in the scientific community regarding exercise complementary role to diet in the prevention of numerous diseases and chronic conditions. Simple walking on a regular basis can help prevent osteoporosis in some women, and some form of cardiovascular exercise helps to strengthen the heart muscle and many of your other muscles for the long haul ahead. Keeping active in the here and now helps ensure that you will be able to remain active when you are older.

How do diet and exercise work together to promote health? If you are exercising, but eating a high-fat diet, plaque can still develop in your arteries, and you are still at risk for numerous types of cancers. Conversely, if you take the step to cut your fat, you are still taking in a couple thousand calories per day. If your daily exercise consists of walking from the car into the office in the morning, you are not burning off too many of those calories. You may lose a few pounds, but you won't want to keep yourself on such a restrictive diet, and you may find yourself slipping. Eventually, you will probably gain all that weight back, losing your grip on better health. What's more, as we age, our metabolism slows, meaning that your body will be using even fewer of those calories if you don't do anything to work them off.

We know that not all of us are cut out for the health club scene and not all of us are gifted athletes. This matters very little, as there are many more physical activities in life than hitting the basketball court. For those who want to include exercise in their lifestyle but don't want to train for a triathlon, walking is a sensible alternative. A thirty-minute walk every day or a one-hour walk three or four times per week will cover about eight miles and, more important, improve muscle tone and burn up about 1,000 calories. Add a low-fat vegetarian diet to that, and you have got a start at a formidable plan to be healthy.

The only way you will stick with an exercise program is to find something that you like doing. If you like to jog every morning, by all means do it. But if you'd like something more low impact, you don't have to look very far to find it. Do you like to dance? Do you like to play tag with your children or take your dog on long walks around the neighborhood? Once you get into an enjoyable routine of exercise, it will be something that you look forward to on a daily basis. And weight loss won't be the only indication that your body is undergoing a change. You will look better, you'll feel better, and you will probably be able to handle the stresses of your day better. Exercise is not only healthful for the body, but it is also therapeutic for the mind.

Acne Cures - Look Better and Feel Better With These Acne Treatments

By Kevin Nelson

Acne is the most common, chronic skin disorder and is endured by millions of people worldwide. Most people mistakenly see acne as only a skin disorder that affects teens. However, acne brings with it some significant psychological effects in even the mildest of cases and can strike adults as easily as it affects teenagers.

The psychological effects are not to be taken lightly. Along with the physical aspects of acne, many people develop low self-confidence and low self-esteem as a result of acne and the social impact it can have on us. In fact, many teens and adults endure a significant amount of embarrassment, ridicule and depression when faced with a severe acne problem.

Because of this, a significant amount of research has been conducted to help find more effective acne cures. The goal, of course, is to find a treatment or series of treatments that works well in most cases which can help improve this emotionally crippling skin condition for the majority of acne patients.

It's unfortunate, however, that even after years of research, experts still cannot determine a single, definitive cure for acne. Instead, acne sufferers have a host of possible acne solutions to choose from including over-the-counter medications and prescription drugs your doctor can provide.

Since most people react differently to different acne treatments, it stands to reason that some of these will work better than others depending on your own reaction. Throughout the process of a bit of trial and error, you're likely to find a treatment that proves effective. However, it's important to understand a bit more about the various options available to you.

Over-the-Counter Products

Over-the-counter products are by far the most common type of acne treatment. They are widely available and quite popular among many acne patients. These types of products include the various cleansers, creams, moisturizers and such that line the store shelves of your local drug store. These types of products, more accurately termed "cosmetic products" rather than "medical products" actually help improve the skin, which in turn helps the overall acne condition. Using these over-the-counter products can help remove whiteheads and blackheads, clear the pores and keep the skin soft and well moisturized. By doing so, you're helping your skin fight back against acne but for more serious outbreaks, you might need something with a little more "bite".

Prescription Drugs

For something a little stronger, you might have to seek out the guidance and expertise of a dermatologist. They can typically provide topical antibiotics or other medications which you can only get by prescription. More often than not, the topical treatments work by attacking the bacteria that infect the pores (one of the factors that cause acne). But like many of today's medications, it's suspected that long-term use of these sorts of treatments only helps the bacteria become resistant to their effects. In addition, there might be some unwanted side effects associated with these cures depending on which solution your doctor provides, so be sure to get a good understanding of them before you start your treatment.

In addition to the topical treatments mentioned above, you might also be prescribed an oral treatment. Of course, with any drug that's ingested, you're dealing with something that will ultimately enter your bloodstream and might have unwanted effects on other parts of the body. This is definitely something to discuss with your doctor so you have an understanding of the side effect that might result as well as the benefits of using this type of treatment.

FACT: Acne affects 90% of people worldwide. Why are some people able to stop acne dead in its tracks while others continue to suffer? Discover how you can quickly and easily find remedies for acne outbreaks and finally have clear, smooth, acne-free skin by visiting www.RemediesForAcne.com

What Are The Best Acne Treatment Methods Available Presently?

By Joshua Poyoh

With today's medical advances, we are being presented with many methods to deal with acne problems. With such a myriad of solutions available to us, frankly it can be quite confusing to the layman. To help us understand this issue more, let us look at the different methods for the treatment of acne if your acne is not responding to over the counter (OTC) medications.

First, it would be wise to visit your local GP. If after two months the acne still does not seem to be improving, ask for a referral to a dermatologist. Treatments for acne differ in various countries and what is acceptable in one may not be available in another.

One of the most common treatments for acne is an antibiotic like tetracycline. This will kill the bacteria present in the blocked hair follicle, thus reducing the inflammation. It may need to be taken for some months, but is considered quite safe.

The acne can also be treated externally by using erythromycin or benzoyl peroxide. While this reduces the bacteria causing the problem, it is really treating the symptoms rather than the cause. That is, the oil secretion and abnormal cell behaviour that blocks the follicle in the first place. So unfortunately, the acne will usually reappear within some weeks of the treatment being stopped.

The best thing to do is to reduce the amount of oil being secreted, and this can be accomplished by taking Vitamin A derivatives (marketed as Accutane). There are many harsh side effects, such as nosebleeds and dry skin with this treatment, so it must be done under the close supervision of the dermatologist. On the good side, over 80% of patients are permanently cured of acne. It was once thought that liver damage and depression could occur, but this is unsubstantiated. Birth defects can occur if taken by pregnant women, but the patient also taking the contraceptive pill before beginning the treatment avoids this.

Exfoliating the skin is another treatment widely used in controlling acne. A chemical exfoliating agent such as salicylic acid or glycolic acid is used as a topical application to encourage the top layer of skin to peel off. This is not as horrible as it sounds, as only a microscopic layer dissolves. The same effect can also be accomplished by the use of an abrasive cloth or liquid scrub.

Sometimes, the contraceptive pill is prescribed for the control of acne. A combined oestrogen or progestogen pill (marketed as Diane) is the most effective and now there is a new one on the market though it may not be available in the USA which has fewer side effects.

Photosynthesis is yet another treatment. Sunlight has been used for a short term aid in the past. Now it has been found that intense blue light produced by specially made fluorescent tubes is far more efficient. Yoram Harth and Alan Shalita have conducted extensive tests and trials with this method and found it can reduce the inflamed lesions by 60 to 70% in about four weeks of treatment. It works best if the acne is mild to moderate and has no side effects.

Before you do anything for your can problems, please consult your doctor for each of the treatment. You may not be aware of some medical complications that may arise. Your present medical condition may prohibit you from some treatments. It may be wise for you to read more before you proceed with these treatments used to control and cure acne.

Generic Drugs Are Safe and Effective But Much Cheaper

By Joseph Oliver

Drug development is a difficult task; it requires a large amount of money to be invested in many processes related with drug development. These processes include drug development in laboratory, testing on animal, testing on human volunteers, negotiation with governmental agencies for getting approval and marketing of drug. According to an estimate around $800,000,000 is generally required to be spent on the development of a drug. With such a huge cost it is not possible for drug developing pharma-company to sell pills on loss cost. Patent laws protect the company from any theft of its intellectual property i.e. copying of drug. The span of this protection differs country to country. An estimated timeframe for a drug development is generally around 20 years.

Once line of functioning of a drug is understood other companies are also able to invent bioequivalent of the branded drug, which will have similar traits and efficacy. These bioequivalent of a drug are known as generic drugs. Any company can produce generic drug when patent of drug developing company has expired or generic drug producing company can prove patent of drug developing company is invalid or the country where generic company is producing drug doesn’t come under enforcement of patent laws.

Whatever the reason for producing generic drug will be, generic drug is beneficial for users. Generic drug companies have everything ready for the production of drug like knowledge about line of action of chemical, knowledge about its substitute, and readiness of market for sale because of publicity campaign carried by original drug. Moreover generic drug companies do not have to waste their time, energy and money in clinical testing of drug. Because of all these privileges enjoyed by generic drug companies their products are available on much lower price.

FDA ensures efficacy and safety of generic drug so that consumer doesn’t have to suffer because of any malpractice. Generic drug manufacturer also have to maintain the same standard as maintained by branded drug manufacturer therefore safety is not a concern while switch over from branded drug to generic drug. Trademark laws in many countries do not let generic drug manufacturer to keep the same brand name for their product as used by branded drug manufacturer. However, most of them try to drive an equivalent name for their product as use by branded drug manufacture. They also try to keep same look of the medicine like colour, flavour and size etc.

To protect themselves from generic drug companies branded drug manufacturers have adopted a new concept. They most of the time sell license for producing generic version of drug to their subsidiaries. This is particularly done in a nation, which does not come under international patent laws. Generic drug produced under such system is known as authorized generic drug. There is the similarity of a great degree in branded drug and its authorized generic version.

From customer point of view it better to switch over to generic product if the doctor prescribes for it.

Seven Things You Can Do To Control Asthma

By Jane Peters

Asthma is a distressing illness, particularly if it occurs in children. Fortunately, asthma attacks can be curtailed if you adopt some commonsense measures.

Here are seven tips that can help you cope with this disease better.

Tip 1:

One of the most important things you can do is to ensure that the patient knows how to use his or her medication correctly. Request your doctor to teach him how to use the inhaler. This is important because sufficient medication must reach the airways in order to alleviate the symptoms.

There must be a clear asthma action plan in place, put together by your heath care professional. Regular checkups are essential too.

Tip 2:

Keep your house clean. Some kinds of bacteria present in household dust are known to induce asthma, according to the National Institutes of Health. It is particularly dangerous if these bacteria are present in the bedroom.

The bacteria will be found where dust mites are present. So take care to remove all breeding places for these mites, such as carpets and any non-essential soft furnishings. The bedroom floor should be cleaned regularly using a good anti-bacterial soap.

Use dust-proof pillow and mattress covers. Regularly wash pillows, sheets and plush toys in hot water.

Tip 3:

Smoking is a big no-no. Not only should the asthma patient not smoke, he should not allow others to smoke around him either.

Smoking inside the asthmatic’s home should be completely disallowed. If someone wants to smoke, he should use a separate room with its own ventilation setup.

Tip 4:

High humidity levels encourage bacteria growth which can cause asthma attacks. Maintain humidity in the 30 to 50 percent range. Clothes dryers should be used with exhausts leading directly outside. Use exhaust fans in bathrooms. If specific areas (like the basement) have high humidity, make use of dehumidifiers.

Tip 5:

Regular exercise under the doctor’s supervision can greatly benefit asthma patients. Swimming is generally an excellent form of exercise for asthmatics. Other kinds of exercises can be beneficial as well. Be sure to consult the doctor before starting an exercise program.

Tip 6:

Gases and particles from combustion can cause asthma problems. Check all stoves, heaters and furnaces at least once a year. When they are in use, furnace filters may need changing every month. There are high efficiency filters available that can significantly reduce the amount of particles getting into the air.

Tip 7:

Many asthmatics are allergic to pollen. If that’s you, try to avoid the outdoors as much as possible during pollen season. Use air conditioning indoors. Covering your nose and mouth with a scarf can help cut down on pollen intake as well as reduce chances of asthma attacks triggered by cold air.

Adopt a healthy sensible lifestyle and follow these simple tips to minimize the effects of asthma.

How to Get Rid of Acne

By Annelise Carter

I don't know about you, but this has got to be one of the biggest problems that males and females alike face at some point in their lives, whether it's as a young person, when you are pregnant, or when you are on some anti-biotics that have nasty side effects!

Either way, you always feel pretty low about yourself if your face is covered in acne.

There are far too many drug-based (man-made) products that are advertised for curing acne that have even nastier side effects and I know for me, I have always looked for an alternative, preferring to go with something natural or something that nature has come up with to combat some ailment I might have.

When I was younger and at high school I was fortunate enough to not have bad acne, I would break out around my period time, but that was about it. Unfortunately, my sister was not so lucky and constantly had bad acne for a good 3 years of her adolescent life... not fun.

Mum and Dad tried lots of different ointments, pills, etc, but none seemed to work for longer than a few weeks and normally after this time, the acne would come back 10 times worse!

So, they set about looking at alternatives to help combat her acne. Here is a list of the different and natural alternatives that were used:

- Transfer Factors Gel. Transfer Factors are found in Colostrum (within Cows and Chickens)

- Oleum Melaleuca is a traditional Aboriginal remedy from Australia

- Oleum Lavandula is well-known for its soothing and healing properties

- Calendula Officinalis is a powerful astringent, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory herb

- Echinacea purpurea for its antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial properties

And many others, but these were the main ones. The best thing to do is visit your local health shop and look for specific Acne products and check to see if they contain these ingredients. It might take a little longer and cost a little more than our man-made medicines... but overall, it is far better for your body in the long-term and your skin will thank you for it!

And my sister... she has no scarring and there is no trace of the bad acne she suffered when she was younger. She is now 27 and gorgeous... but I am biased :-)

Get Rid Of Acne Scars With The Right Treatment

By Lim Zheng Yang

Although it's little comfort, I have acne scars on my face too.

Pretty darn disheartening, first having to endure the pain of acne, then having scars left behind to disfigure us. That's not exactly the happiest thought in the world.

Depending on how bad your acne condition was in the first place, and also what acne treatment steps you took to fight it, scars will appear as the aftermath to a certain extent. Regardless of how bad your scarring is, there are some steps you can take to improve the situation.

Some preventive measures include these:

Of course, one of the ways is to go for laser treatment.

Then, there is the common method of dermabrasion.

Some people might also go for chemical peels.

In more severe cases where the acne scars are deeply indented, your skin care doctor might suggest surgery.

Regardless of how bad your scars are, I'd suggest never attempt to get rid of it yourself by applying "miracle" lotions or masks. Chances are, these won't help, and may even add to the damage.

What you can do is maintain a good skin care regime, while you consult a professional dermatologist for the best treatment available.

And I guess you've heard this one before, don't squeeze or pop those pimples! Or only more scars will await you ;)

Lim Zheng Yang used to suffer from acne and has spent countless hours researching on this skin condition and the best ways to treat it. You can read more about his works at his main site Acne and Wrinkle Treatments Guide and Blog. And for his collection of acne resources, you can visit his sub-site Acne Treatment for All

Important Tips On How To Quickly And Easily Decrease Acne With Proper Acne Treatment

By Tim Gorman

If you have acne and have looked for an effective treatment, you're probably very tired of hearing the same old claims - "decrease acne in just two days" or "guaranteed best in the market". Unfortunately many acne treatments produce a lot of hype, but very few deliver on the promises they make.

Unfortunately this means that many acne sufferers become more and more desperate to find a solution. It's quite possible you've tried dozens of products in the hope of success, only to find you've wasted your money yet again. No matter how hard you try to resist, each time you see another list of amazing claims you can't resist the temptation; you just have to try it. Maybe this time it really will work.

The reality is that getting rid of acne requires some hard work. It's not fun having acne, and the feeling that people are staring at you can make you feel very isolated and embarrassed. It's easy to get depressed and let acne ruin your social life, because it's easier to sit at home than go and hang out with your friends where other people might see your acne.

The bottom line when it comes to treating your acne is to know what it is you want to achieve, and do what it takes to make that happen. That may sound a bit silly, because naturally the automatic response is to say I just want to get rid of my acne, that's my goal. But it's still important to set the goal, and give it a realistic time frame. Acne won't disappear overnight, so just accept that you're going to have to put in some hard work over a long period of time, and get on with it.

Basically, you need to start with a routine. Acne is caused by bacteria in the skin, coupled with oiliness and clogged pores, so that's where you need to start. Remove the bacteria and the stuff they feed on, and over time the amount of acne will be reduced. Buy a skin-cleansing product that's suitable for your skin - and most importantly, use it! It's not going to achieve anything if it just sits on the bathroom shelf. You need to get a routine happening, and follow it every day without fail. It's a long-term investment of time, but once it becomes a habit, you'll start to see the positive results.

Even better, once you've been sticking to your routine a while and seeing results, it becomes even easier to pull out that cleaner and get on with your routine. Having clearer skin is what you want, and once you realize that keeping your skin clean is reducing your acne, you'll realize that persisting with your routine will eventually lead to your skin being completely clear.

Ways To Avoid Getting Acne

By Jonathon Hardcastle

People between ages 12 and 24 run the chance of getting acne; this unsightly skin condition can be caused by numerous factors. Most acne outbreaks are caused by the sebaceous glands secreting more than they should, but factors such as a poor diet, oily skin, stress, and a host of other issues can give rise to an acne condition. To avoid getting acne, or to clear up an existing acne problem, the following tips are recommended:

Make sure that you keep a well balanced, healthy diet. Ensure that you are getting all the vitamins and minerals that your body needs on a daily basis, making a concentrated effort to keep a healthy diet.

Avoid carbonated beverages such as sodas as much as possible. It is important to stay hydrated, and its best to drink water or juice when you're feeling thirsty.

Wearing make-up can cause oil to be trapped on your face, causing an increased risk of getting acne.

If you're a person with long hair, do your best to keep it from touching your face. The oils secreted by the hair can rub off onto the face, causing a likelihood of acne.

If you get your hands dirty, do all that you can to wash them before you touch your face. Rubbing dirt on your face is a significant reason that people can get acne.

It's important to remove all the excess oil from your face as effectively as possible. To do this, it is often recommended to use a cleaning solution that contains salicylic acid, sulfur, or benzoyl peroxide. These agents are known to be the most effective when it comes to topical cleaning pads.

Do your best to only use products that involve mild exfoliation. Harsh cleaners can really damage your skin, and so it's best to be gentle and use mild products.

Use soap and water to wash your face throughout the day. This simple process helps to remove the plugs located on the pores of the skin, which are composed of dead cells and bacteria. While it doesn't completely help an acne problem, it helps to avoid further complications.

These are just some simple tips to help you deal with an acne problem. If your issue is severe, it can be helpful to speak to a health care professional to get an opinion on whether acne medication is right for you.

Acne and Your Skin Type

By Elizabeth Radisson

Living with acne can be difficult, and it is even more difficult to find the right acne treatment product that will help you in your struggle to be free of it. One thing that makes acne treatment so hard is the number and variety of acne treatment products currently on the market.

While it is easy to find acne treatments, locating the treatment product that is right for you can give you a headache. It can be irritating to go through all those different types of acne treatment products. And how do you know which product will work for your skin?

You can simplify this search and get the product that you need much quicker. However, the place to start your acne treatment search is not with the products.

The place to start is with your skin. In order to determine the best treatment for your acne, you need to know your skin type. There are three basic skin types, the most common of which is combination skin.

Oily Skin

Oily skin is typically shiny and attracts dirt and dust. This grit causes blackheads. Oily skin also generally has larger pores, and is coarse to the touch. Very oily skin does not require you to use any moisturizer at all, but it does require a good face wash and cleanser. You can also use alcohol-based products to help dry out your skin.

Dry Skin

Dry skin looks dry and often flakes. Dry skin can also be more sensitive to sun, wind and cold. This skin is usually less prone to acne. To treat dry skin, use moisturizers that will lubricate your skin. Also, avoid products containing alcohol, as alcohol will dry your skin even more.

Combination Skin

Combination skin is what most people have, where the oily T-zone comes into play. (The T-Zone is the zone made horizontally by your forehead, and vertically by your nose and chin.) This type of skin usually requires products that are specifically for combination skin.

Normal to Oily: Oily skin in the T-Zone, normal skin on the cheeks

Dry to Oily: Dry skin on the cheeks, oily skin in the T-Zone

After you find out what type of skin you have, finding the right product will become much easier. Reading more about the difference skin types will help you understand your skin, and how it reacts. Work with this knowledge to identify the products that are right for your face.

Treating Acne With The Right Acne Skin Care Treatment Products

By Low Jeremy

Most people know that the normal pimple has a life cycle of six to eight weeks without serious treatment. But what they don’t know is that when pimples develop into acne, it would require more time to heal, it is painful due to heavy peeling and would eventually leave ugly and uneven acne scars.

If your pimples are taking too long to heal and are spreading all over your face and neck, then you should be visiting your dermatologist so he or she can give you effective acne skin care treatment products as early as now.

SELECTING ACNE TREATMENTS AND PRODUCTS

Acne is one of the most common skin problems that people—young and old—have to deal with today. Being a skin disorder usually caused by irritated blackheads and whiteheads, the development of acne becomes more and more difficult to cure if the infection is neglected and left untreated. This neglect can even cause further irritation and may eventually lead to the production of abscess.

Since prevention is the best treatment to any impending injury or disaster, finding a good line of acne skin care products now can be an effective way to control your growing acne.

Acne skin care treatment products that have antibiotics have been long known as effective solution in treating moderate to severe and persistent acne. Oral treatments include products that contain tetracycline, erythromycin, minocycline and doxycycline are known to be effective.

Most people consider topical acne medication or treatments through creams and surgery as other options in treating acne. One of the most common acne skin care treatment product are acne creams. Before you purchase acne creams, consider these helpful tips:

1. Most dermatologists recommend acne cream as effective acne skin care treatment product because the skin quickly absorbs it.

2. Acne creams are good option because these are derived from natural substances and sources. Quality acne creams can even help you get rid of acne without too much acne scarring.

3. Checking the label. Make sure that the acne cream you plan to buy is hypoallergenic and can be used by children or pregnant women without enduring any pain or discomfort. Knowing the ingredients used in the product will ensure that the acne cream has balanced formulation to deliver effective results.

4. Do a little research on how the formulation and content of these creams help cure the skin infection.

5. Observe how your skin reacts to the acne skin care treatment product. After the initial application, take note of the visible changes so you can avoid possible side effects or allergies.

Treating Acne: Over-The-Counter Products You Should Avoid

By Hector Morales

The number of over-the-counter products available for the prevention and treatment of acne are numerous. Some of these products have been developed to reduce the chances of the development of acne by including substances designed to unclog the pores. There are also cleansers, which are designed to do a simple job - cleanse the skin and remove excess oils and dirt to help control breakouts. While it's true that some over-the-counter products are somewhat helpful for the treatment of acne, it's also true that some of these could harm your skin.

Among the most popular products used to cleanse the skin is soap. Although this product might be helpful for some people, it also can aggravate the acne afflicted areas depending on your skin type, skin sensitivity, and actual acne condition. So, if you plan to use a cleanser it is very important that you get one that will work best with your skin type, skin sensitivity, and acne condition. This will help you avoid further irritation to your skin and will promote faster healing. For instance, if your skin is oily, it is recommended you use soaps that are practically oil-free, as products containing a substantial amount of oil will add oil to your skin, causing the pores to become clogged and subsequent breakouts to occur. On the other hand,
if you have sensitive skin, you'd better stay away from fragrant soaps for the chemicals in them can cause breakouts too.

Another popular over-the-counter product that can cause negative effects on your acne condition is cosmetics. It has been reported that certain makeup products contain chemicals that can cause breakouts. This is due to the clogging of the pores and irritation of the skin produced by these products. So, if you didn't know about this, you might want to find out what is in your cosmetic products from now on. This is especially true in the case that recently you've been suffering more breakouts than normal or if you've been feeling something is irritating your skin. The answer to all of this might be in your cosmetics. Nowadays, you can easily find lots of information about the cosmetic products you buy - about its ingredients, what they should be used for, and even the skin type it works best on! With all this information, there's no reason why you shouldn't find some good cosmetics for your skin. However, you must get those that won't worsen your acne. The recommended cosmetics for acne sufferers are cosmetics that are non-cometigenic. These cosmetics won't clog your pores.

Again, keep in mind to always choose your acne products carefully. If you'd like to be consistent, you might even want to try sticking to one brand for your daily regimen. When you use a specific line of products that has been designed to work together it will help you promote healing and prevention in the same way. Avoid harsh, over-the-counter products that can irritate your skin. And don't forget that, in case any product irritates your skin simply stop its use immediately and find one that doesn't. As an ultimate solution, consult a physician if the use of over-the-counter hygiene products isn't doing the trick.

When washing your skin, always do it gently. But never over wash your skin as this can cause it to become irritated and breakouts to occur. No matter how hard you try but simply over washing your skin will not remove any more dirt and oil but will only cause irritation. Also, stop squeezing your pimples. The only thing you'll accomplish if you pinch your pimples is to cause the bacteria to go deeper within the skin. And this in turn will cause the area around the pimple to become irritated and inflamed. To alleviate the problem and bring out the pus, the best solution is to cleanse the area and use a toner instead.

Treatment Of Acne Scars

By Keith George

Acne is the condition of sebaceous glands. These glands are attached to the hair follicles. They produce an oily substance called sebum. Pathogenic events in sebaceous glands are believed to be due in large degree to change the levels of male hormones in human body. This is usually connected with the growth and development that occurs between the ages of 12 and 21. Acne can however occur even in adulthood.

The clogged skin pores, pimples and deep-seated cystic or nodular lumps, all symptoms of acne occur usually on face, neck, chest, back, shoulder and upper arms. Acne is common during puberty or during hormonal fluctuations as over productive oil glands and clogged pores are the main reasons behind the skin lesions.

Due to dirt and dust glandular oil cannot escape, as a result there is swelling in the area leading to skin lesions. Some lesions might resemble acne. One such skin condition is called folliculitis that requires different treatment than acne. If there are multiple recurrences it is difficult to treat.

Acne can manifest itself in different forms of skin disorder like blackheads, whiteheads and most common forms of acne scars. These may be severe with bacterial infection like raised papule or hardened nodule or even pus filled in them.

The best way to take care of skin is to go slow on the make-up and remove the marks of make–up before going to sleep. Pricking a pimple might lead to scar and possibly lead to further infection.

Benzoyl Peroxide is a highly recommended over the counter medicine for acne. Vitamin A based tretinoin and adapalene are also considered to be effective. Benzoyl Peroxide gently exfoliates the skin and prevents bacterial infection.

Some creams might have drying and itching effect and so it is wise to use them in low dose. Isotretinoin is best to use in case of severe nodular and cystic ones. However, recent research has proved that it causes birth defects if taken during pregnancy and has been linked to certain side-effects like psychological ailments, depression and even suicidal streaks. During advanced cases oral antibiotics can work well. It should be accompanied by strict medical supervision. The TCA Peel is the safest , best and also has no side-effects. This peel also works towards making the skin radiantly supple and thus imparts a younger look. Since it is difficult to treat adult acne one should consult a dermatologist without delay when it first appears during adulthood.

Dietary supplements like Acuzine includes ingredients like anti-oxidants, vitamins E and C hydrolyzed collagen, ALA, DMAE, aloe vera , bioperine etc which help in the early recovery of skin and also provide vitamins for rebuilding the skin.

Waging A War Against Acne Through Acne Treatment Skin Care

By Low Jeremy

Everybody wants to be beautiful in the most common standard of beauty—physical beauty. But sometimes, it is unavoidable to encounter problems when it comes to achieving physical beauty. One of these difficulties is having various skin disorders or skin diseases like acne.

SKIN CARE THAT TREATS ACNE

It is common for people regardless of gender, age, or nationality to experience skin disorders. But among the kinds of skin imperfections, most people would agree that acne is one of the most painful and hardest to treat.

Here are some of the skin care tips that could help you treat acne even if you are at home.

1. The very first thing to do to solve acne problems is to trace the causes of acne for you to understand what should be done about it.

2. Make a little review of your lifestyle for the past few years or months and look if you have been neglecting so much skin and body care lately.

3. Make sure that you get enough sleep of at least 8 hours or more.

4. Eat three hearty meals and healthy snacks on the side.

5. Give your body enough water supply by drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily.

6. If you have been stressed out lately, try to unwind and relax so you could go back to living a healthy lifestyle.

If your acne problem doesn’t get any better, it’s now time to find solution to your problem. The very first thing you should do is to open or unclog the pores by washing once or twice daily with a mild cleansing liquid or bar.

Aside from keeping your skin clear and clean by cleansing, it also minimizes possible irritation and inflammation of the skin. If the cleansing strategy doesn’t work out, try opening your pores through exfoliating cleansers and masques.

After cleansing, you should kill the acne-causing bacteria by using antibacterial cleansers especially those that contain benzoyl peroxide. An acne patient can also kill the bacteria by using topical or external medications that come in the form of creams, gels, and lotions applied in the area affected.

Since too much oil in the skin aggravates acne, you should reduce the excess production by using gentle astringents or toners. Use products that contain glycolic acid or facial masques that have sulfur or antibacterial pads that have benzoyl peroxide to draw out the oil. If you want to conceal acne, you can use water-based or oil free cosmetics.

But above all these, dermatologists agree that having a good skin regimen is the ultimate skin care that treats acne. Developing a basic skin routine by using products that have benzoyl peroxide wash or salicylic acid and the application of benzoyl peroxide gel or cream can help you solve the skin problem.

Acne Prevention: The 5 Minute Guide to Stopping Future Outbreaks

By Kevin Nelson

Acne is recognized by most experts as one of the most common, chronic skin conditions, endured by millions of people worldwide. Acne usually comes about during our teenage years, but there are plenty of adults also dealing with acne who would certainly argue that this is just an issue for teens. There are several factors suspected of being causes of acne, though no one has narrowed it down to a single cause. The usual suspects you're likely familiar with include heredity, hormonal changes and excess oil on the skin. The overwhelming impact acne can have on a person's self-esteem is an often overlooked aspect of this condition. But by following a few simple guidelines, you can help prevent future outbreaks while working on clearing up any acne that has already formed.

(Note that these guidelines tend to be focused on acne present on the face since that's the most common area it shows up, but the same guidelines apply wherever acne may form)

Acne Prevention Rule #1: Avoid Oil-Based Products
Avoid products that are oil-based. Since acne forms as a result of your skin producing too much oil, it makes sense that you would want to stay away from oily products. In addition, if you wear makeup or use any other sorts of products on your skin, be sure you purchase products that don't clog your pores. The last thing you want to do is continue using products that only enhance the problem.

Acne Prevention Rule #2: Keep Your Face Clean
You should do your best to keep your skin as clean as possible. This means that ideally two times a day, you will wash your face with mild soap using gentle motions. You don't want to wash too aggressively or use soap or cleansers that are too strong as this might aggravate the condition, making things even worse. The same applies when drying your face also and it might even be a good idea to pat it dry rather than rubbing your face with a towel.

Acne Prevention Rule #3: Do Not Pick It
You should never try to pick at your acne or pop your pimples. Doing so might have the short-term effect of making the pimple less pronounced, but in the long run, it will only help spread acne to other areas of your face or body.

Acne Prevention Rule #4: Minimize Rubbing on Your Face
If you play sports or are involved in anything that requires you to wear equipment that rubs against your face, you should try to minimize the amount of rubbing and friction on the acne-affected areas since this can aggravate the problem.

Acne Prevention Rule #5: Avoid Areas With Airborne Grease
Airborne grease such as what you typically find in fast food restaurants can cause problems for some people. The excess grease can remain in the air, end up on your face and have the same effect as the excess oil your skin is already producing. This is not to say that you should avoid fast food restaurants (other than the obvious reasons that don't apply to acne) but this is something you should be aware of and keep in mind if you happen to work in such an environment.

Acne Prevention Rule #6: Try Lots of Acne Remedies to Find What Works
Consider trying different types of acne medications or other treatments. Some treatments may take awhile to work while others can produce very fast results. But we all react a little differently to different products so figuring out what works best for you may take a little trial and error. Benzoyl Peroxide-based creams and other products are found to be effective by some acne patients. It is included in many of the products you can find at your local drug store thanks to its antibacterial and acne-fighting properties. In fact, studies have shown that this chemical is effective for getting rid of acne-causing bacteria on the skin.

There are a wide range of other acne-fighting medications and remedies on the market to choose from, which you can get either through your doctor or at your local drug store. In addition, many people find great success with herbal or homemade acne remedies.

Be sure to practice good acne prevention while you continue using one of these acne remedies to treat your current acne outbreaks and you should see the frequency of acne outbreaks go down over time.

Acne Scar Removal - How to Get Your Beautiful Skin Back

By Tanya Turner

Acne finally cleared from your face but left scars behind? Don’t despair there is help. There are several effective methods for acne scar removal. This article will help you to understand your options, so you can decide what is best for you.

What are effective acne scar removal treatments?

1. Dermabrasion

During dermabrasion the doctor removes top layers of the skin using an electrical machine. Right after the treatment the skin is red and feels irritated, but after it heals the surface appears smoother. This method is relatively cheap and suitable for removing mild acne scars.

2. Laser treatment also called laser resurfacing

This method burns away damaged skin with high-energy light. It is used to minimize wrinkles as well as to get rid of acne scars. Many doctors recommend laser scar removal over other methods because it produces lasting effect and problems rarely reaccure.

3. Chemical peels

Chemical peels is a popular procedure to make skin look fresher, it is used not only for acne scars but also to minimize sun-damaged skin and to get rid of irregular pigmentation. During this method the top layer of skin is also removed, so it is very similar to dermabrasion, but instead of abrasive instrument, chemicals are used.

4. Collagen injections

During this treatment collagen is injected under the scared skin. The idea is to replace the body's natural collagen that has been lost. It works well for acne scars, but in most cases the effect is not permanent and injections have to be repeated. Collagen injections often used after one of the peeling treatments has been performed.

5. Punch grafts

Punch grafts are small portions of skin used to replace scarred skin. Replacement skin usually comes from your ear lobes, sometimes also skin from the inner part of the thigh is used. Punch grafts are effective for treating deep acne scars, where none of the peeling methods would work. This is an expencive procedure, but it produces very good results.

6. Autologous fat transfer

This is a delicate and expensive treatment. It involves collecting living sells from your body, growing them in the lab and then inserting into your scars. If everything goes well, inserted sells continue to grow, filling the scar. Usually three injections are made. This method is used to tread deep scars from cystic acne. If done properly, it gives good lasting results.

Questions to ask your doctor about acne scar removal

Would the scars go away completely or just became less visible?
You should keep in mind that if you have deep scars, no treatment probably can remove them completely. Even after several treatments, you skin will not be perfect. However, in most cases, it is possible to make acne scars less obvious. If your scars are not very deep, an effective treatment like laser therapy will make the scars disappear from your face.

Does the treatment give permanent results or have to be repeated after a while?
While some methods, laser scar treatment, for example, remove your scars permanently other treatment need to be repeated. Collagen injections, is one that you will have to do more than once.

What would be the total cost of the treatment?

Often doctors recommend more than one scar removal method. While chemical peels or dermabrasion don’t cost all that much, other scar removing treatments are very expensive. If would help, if you know in advance an approximate cost of full treatment.

One more thing, did you know that your diet also can help with scar removal? Doctors recommend antioxidants to decrease acne breakouts and improve skin texture. Diet high in antioxidants helps your skin to regenerate faster, so it is important for acne control. Foods that are high in antioxidants are tomatoes, leafy vegetables, apples, oranges and most berries.

It pays off to see what options are available to you, before you commit yourself to a particular treatment. Unfortunately, the deeper your scars are the more expensive and complicated the treatment it would be. It might be a good idea to try a cheaper acne scar removal treatment first, and see if you are happy with the results. Just remember that you have options, so there is no reason to leave your scars as they are thinking that there is nothing you can do to get rid of them.

Severe Acne - Remedies You Should Know About

By Kevin Nelson

Acne is hands-down the most common skin problem that most of us face. It usually starts up in our teenage years, though most people outgrow it as they get older. However acne also afflicts many adults - so called "adult acne" which is no different than other acne. Whether it becomes a problem during your teenage years or as an adult, we all have different degrees of acne outbreaks, from very mild to severe acne. If you have severe acne outbreaks, here are some things to consider to help you rid yourself of this embarrassing problem.

Just as the name implies, severe acne is the riskiest form of acne when you consider the wide spectrum of acne development people can have. Even mild acne can cause embarrassment and low self esteem and it's understandable that those feelings are magnified as acne becomes more and more severe.

It usually shows up as cysts which cause inflammation and significant damage to the skin, including possible scarring. Since it has such serious effects, severe acne calls for some serious treatments to help minimize the damage. In fact, this is probably one of those situations where the advice of a skin care specialist should be sought out.

The current remedies for severe acne can be broken down into two primary categories - either physical solutions or solutions that rely on prescription drugs. Here are some of the most common remedies used by doctors to treat severe acne.

Injection

Acne cysts can become inflamed and eventually burst, causing scarring. In order to prevent scarring from taking place, doctors can inject the cysts to help reduce the inflammation and help heal the affected area of the skin. This works by essentially melting the cysts over a period of a few days to a week.

Drainage (Acne Surgery)

This can be used when acne cysts do not respond to other methods of treatment. As the name implies, the acne cysts are drained of their fluid in order to reduce or eliminate cysts. Of course, since this procedure needs to be done in a sterile environment, as they say on TV, "Don't try this at home". However this is a procedure that your dermatologist is trained to perform and might be a viable option for you to consider.

Isotretinoin

Isotretinoin is a powerful drug used for treatment of severe acne. It comes as a pill which your doctor can prescribe and inform you of the recommended dosage based on your level of acne outbreak. It is one of the most effective cures for severe acne and also helps prevent some of the other factors that are suspected as causes for acne development - oil production, inflammation, and clogged skin pores.

An Effective Acne Treatment - The Dream Of Every Teenager

By N Young

Acne is the most commonly diagnosed skin condition in young people. This is young men and women with ages between 12-25 years of age. The visible scars and injuries on the skin of the person suffering from this acne condition makes it hard to endure in everyday life, specially at the early ages that characterize the appearance of this condition.

Acne appears on the skin and it forms inside a person's pores. Pores are the openings in the skin through which hair grows. One of the slabs in the chain of how acne is originated is inside these tiny holes, they are called sebaceous glands and are connected to the pores. They continually produce a substance called sebum, which lubricates the hair and the skin.

Several things happen inside the pore before acne appears on the skin. First, the sebaceous glands at the bottom of the pore start producing too much oil. Then, as the pore's inside naturally renews itself, it releases dead cells inside the cavity. These dead cells combine with sebum to create a plug. The result is an enlarged, blocked pore.

If the plug stays beneath the surface of the skin, it causes what is called a whitehead. But if it barely reaches the surface of the skin, it then causes a blackhead. When the walls of the pore break down, the result is a pimple.

But this is not all. Those plugged pores usually create a perfect breeding ground for bacteria, and this is what causes the characteristic pain, inflammation and swelling on the skin. The bacteria and oil can also create deep, painful areas which can lead to scarring.

There are several known factors that can lead to suffering from acne:

Heredity

Hormones

Some medicines

Some make-up and cosmetic products

Friction from clothing and sporting equipment

Environmental factors such as pollution and humidity

Many teenagers spend a big part of their lives lamenting for having this condition and trying home remedies for acne without good results and only augmenting their frustration. The good news is that there exist effective treatments for acne.

Why Are You Letting Acne Ruin Your Life?

By Rose Lindy

Those of us who suffer from acne should, at the very least, learn what skin care products are available that will help keep acne under control. I'm sure you realize how that a ton of acne skin care products are available so it is not hard to find skin care products, it is hard to figure out what is actually going to work for you. Also everyone is different, so what works for you may not work for someone else. Don't get discouraged, you will find a product that works for you, it just may take some time to find the right thing.

One prescription product that has helped a lot of people is Accutane, but you must have a prescription from your doctor to buy this product. Accutane is only prescribed to people who have severe acne because this is a very strong medication that you swallow and it does have side effects. Never take any medication without looking into the side effects. Sometimes it seems as if the side effects are worse than the problem!

A very popular, non-prescription acne skin care product is ProActiv. Benzoyl peroxide in prescription strength is fighting power of ProActiv. This is a system with three parts to it; a renewing cleanser, revitalizing toner and repairing lotion.

Retin-a is another acne skin care product. You apply this to your skin and it treats acne, acne scarring and stretch marks, just to name a few. There are other acne products out there that are applied topically. You can try specific essential oils such as tea tree oil, Rosewood oil, clove oil and Bergamot oil. Essential oils have become very popular and can even be found in some grocery stores. You will definitely be able to find them in a natural foods store.

If you are just beginning your search in acne skin care and you do not suffer from severe acne, you should try the most natural products first, such as the essential oils then you can work your way up from there. If you have tried everything OR if you have severe acne, do not put off or be too embarrassed to seek help from a medical professional. The sooner you get your acne under control the happier and confident you will feel.

Acne Solutions That Are Guaranteed To Work

By David Maillie

Acne is a condition that affects 4 out of 5 people at some time in their life. Some get it a lot worse than others and it can result in permanent physical and emotional scars. Bad acne to a teenager could be the same as wearing coke bottle glasses for really bad eyes – non acceptance and lack of a social life. It also greatly affects millions of adults. We see numerous infomercials on everything from Proactiv to Murad facial cleansing products.

The problem is that most of their claims are false and these products do not work. Why do you think that you can’t buy them in physical stores and even more importantly, why doesn’t your dermatologist or doctor prescribe Proactiv or Murad? Why don’t they stock them in their offices and make them a part of their anti acne regimen? Because they are all multi million dollar advertising hype and do not work any more so than a sugar pill or placebo. Here is what really does work and is actually used by dermatologists in their offices (unlike Proactiv and Murad).

The first thing one with acne needs to do is gently wash and clean their face. Proactiv makes benzoyl peroxide a mian stay of their active ingredients and it may kill some of the acne causing bacteria, but it greatly irritates the skin and actually worsens or exacerbates the condition. Why do you think everyone sells their ineffective Proactiv solutions on Ebay? So they can recoup some of the money they have lost with this ineffective product. Instead of using Proactiv or Murad, dermatologists recommend a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil which will thoroughly cleanse your skin and not irritate it. Unlike Proactiv and Murad, Cetaphil is actually used in almost every dermatologists office and is a part of their acne treating and skin care regimen.

Another treatment that is actually used by dermatologists is the TCA peel (or trichloroacetic acid skin peel). This is a medium depth skin peel and will remove the top few layers of skin and result in newer and more youthful skin. The TCA peel will also reach deep inside of every pore unclogging them of sebaceous gland oil and bacteria. The TCA peel will then neutralize the skin and return it to its natural pH making it less prone to infection by acne causing bacteria. The TCA peel has been found to be so effective in treating acne and numerous skin conditions including wrinkles, sun damage, freckles and even pre cancerous legions and growths that it has actually been approved by the FDA for these purposes. The TCA peel is used and offered in almost every dermatologist and plastic surgeons office and has some off shoots like the Obagi Blue Peel (made famous by Dr. Obagi).

The main ingredient in the famous Obagi Blue Peel is still the same as in the TCA peel (TCA). The difference is that the Obagi Blue Peel has a staining or dye that is blue or green in color and it is applied as a paste. The idea behind this is it makes it easier to identify where it has and hasn’t been applied. The negatives are that you look like a frog until it heals, and the Obagi Blue Peel tends to be weaker than a pure TCA peel and thusly requires several more treatments for the same results. The pure TCA peel is used in more and more doctors offices as it offers patients more results quicker. The pure TCA peel also has longer lasting results.

Lastly, one needs to properly moisturize their skin. A non comodogenic (non pimple causing) moisturizer with a relatively high spf (sun protection factor rating where 40 is highest and 1 or 0 is lowest) to block out harmful UV rays. Regardless of if you are outside on a sunny day or a cloudy day, UV rays are aging your skin and can also bring on precancerous conditions. Use UV protection. If you can’t find it in a moisturizer that you like, then by all means use protective sun lotion with a high spf (make sure it is waterproof, non comodogenic and easy to apply). If you don’t think you need it or that you won’t get cancer, just take a visit to your local hospitals oncology department. The patients there will tell you they thought it wouldn’t matter also.

There you have it a three part acne treatment system that is guaranteed to work unlike misleading TV advertisements and infomercials hawked by highly paid stars like Jessica Simpson and others. Use what really works and is actually used by dermatologists in their offices on their actual patients.

Getting Rid Of The Teenage Pest Acne

By Jason Rickard

Almost every teenager dreads the day acne will strike them when
they least expect it. One of the biggest problems is that they
begin to panic and begin trying all sorts of remedies without
first hand knowledge about acne from a reliable physician or
doctor. So in this article I wish to reveal a few of the best
known ways to reduce and control acne. Notice I did not say
cure acne, because at this moment, there is no way to instantly
‘cure’ acne, but instead you can control it. The great thing is
that when you are in control, you can eventually reduce it and
finally get rid of it.

One of the best solutions to a quick acne treatment today’s
technology provides us with, is a simple hand held device that
uses heat to zap the acne away from your skin. Heat has been
known as one of the most effective ways to deal with the acne
bacteria so the creation of this gadget was highly anticipated.
The name of this little gadget is Zeno. You simply switch it on,
place it on the areas most affected on your face and watch as
the heat from Zeno destroys the bacteria. The problem with acne
is that it really is a pest and keeps coming back, so its best
this is done regularly. This device costs around $250.

If you can’t afford Zeno, then the ideal alternative solution
for you would be the traditional, non-scented soap and warm
water. Now don’t be fooled into washing five times a day. All
you need to do is wash your face twice daily, one time in the
morning when you wake up and the other time just before going
to bed. A popular misconception is that the more you wash the
better. This is not so and in fact washing your face more than
twice daily will spread the acne to other non-infected areas on
your face, so be careful. The warm water will also help in
opening the clogged pores which cause pimples.

Another great way to eliminate acne is to frequently visit
steam rooms in gymnasiums or you could simply have a steam bath
at home. This again goes back to using heat to control acne. The
perspiration will help cleanse the skin on your face. Do this
frequently and you should have a spotless face in no time.

Although there are many other ways to eliminate acne, the above
mentioned methods are amongst the best solutions for your acne
problems. The reason is because most creams and ointments that
doctors prescribe require three weeks of consistent usage
before you can actually begin to see results. The above methods
outlined will show you results within twenty four hours which is
what almost if not all of us are seeking.

Interesting Facts About Sleep You Probably Didn't Know

By Jason Rickard

The topic of sleep is so vast and yet so little seems to be known about this great subject which is a daily part of our everyday lives. There are many interesting facts about sleep which you may not know about yet knowing these facts can immensely enhance your daily sleep.

The more you sleep the more energetic you feel

This couldn’t be further from the truth as you don’t need ten or eight hours of sleep in order to feel energetic and in fact contrary to standard beliefs, you only require five to six hours of sleep. Astonishing as it may sound, less sleep means you can perform better. In fact some of the world’s greatest CEO’s, entrepreneurs and scientists sleep only four hours a day and wake up full of energy and ready for yet another challenging day of work.

Do these people have a secret? Not really, here is another crazy fact about sleep. The more you sleep the more tired you feel. You may or may not have heard about this but in case you didn’t know, over sleeping makes you lazy. This is pure common sense that if you sit in front of the TV all day doing nothing you’re going to become a lazy couch potato. Sleep is the same thing if you over do it as over time, you will become lazier and lazier. “Use it or lose it”, have you heard that statement before?

Less sleep means you can do more. What is the secret to the success for some of the world’s top performing minds? It may surprise you, but sleeping less means they gain extra hours per day instead of losing them. Imagine this scenario. You normally sleep nine hours a day. Deduct that from twenty four and you got fifteen hours to achieve your set goals for that day. Now consider someone who sleeps only four hours a day, they have an extra five hours to go after their goals. Here’s the part where it gets better, now calculate that for ten years, and see how many hours the second person would have had extra in comparison to the first. You will be shocked!

Here is another great fact about sleep. One third of your entire life is spent on sleep! How can so much time possibly be wasted. If every human being on this planet just cut down on one hour of sleep and devoted that one hour to work can you imagine how much more technologically advanced we would be today. Add up the man hours.

If you are someone who over sleeps, then try getting up early every morning and join the five O’clock club to see how this will affect your life. Believe me the results will leave you amazed at what you have achieved in that first single month in comparison to your previous year.

Lipitor vs. Zocor: What is Better For Your Health and Your Wallet

By Joshua Daly

In the battle of cholesterol lowering medication, Lipitor has a commanding advantage in today’s market. Lipitor is the world’s number 1 selling drug. According to USA Today, Lipitor’s sales have risen $3.1 billion in the second quarter and are expecting to hit record high sales of 13 billion this year. The number 2 cholesterol fighting medication or “statin” in the industry is Zocor. Zocor has recently released a generic version of the anti-cholesterol drug in hopes to sway consumers to from Lipitor, and purchase their new, less expensive product. But is Lipitor really worth the extra money? We’ll find out by comparing Lipitor’s prices, results, and side effects to that of Zocor, the leading competition in the statin industry.

• Price

In the battle for price, Zocor’s generic alternative Simvastatin dishes out the first blow. For 90, 10mg tablets it costs $225.97 Lipitor, and $199.97 for Zocor. And for 90, 40mg tablets it costs $312.00 for Lipitor compared to $238.00 for Zocor. The New York Times reports that “In many cases, they say, patients who now take the most commonly prescribed dosage of Lipitor - 10 milligrams daily - can reduce their cholesterol just as much with Zocor. Lipitor costs $2 or more a day, while generic Zocor will probably cost 35 cents or less.” The larger the dosage the more savings Zocor offers. If you order a large amount of pills at a time, or you require a large dosage of the medication, you can save a reasonably large amount of money. I give the edge in the price department to Zocor.

• Results, Effectiveness

This category is very close as both drugs are very affective in reducing bad cholesterol (LDL) and raising good cholesterol (HDL). Both Lipitor and Zocor belong to the class of drugs known as “statins”, which lower cholesterol by blocking the enzyme in the liver that produces bad cholesterol. In a recent study done by Phizer the producer of Lipitor, it was found that Lipitor was no better at preventing major heart complications than its leading competitor Zocor. However CBS found that “Lipitor outperformed Zocor on several fronts such as lowering cholesterol and preventing nonfatal heart attacks.” In the category of effectiveness the edge goes to Lipitor.

• Side Effect

As with any prescription medication, both Lipitor and Zocor have a small percentage of users that experience adverse side affects. Both have minimal side effects including upset stomach, gas, heartburn, change of taste, diarrhea, constipation, skin rash, headache, dizziness or blurred vision that may occur the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. However in recent clinical trails, it has been found that a rare muscle problem has been linked to statin drugs, which includes both Lipitor and Zocor. An estimated 5 to10 percent of all patients using statins experience these adverse side affects of minor muscle soreness and loss of muscle strength. So in the final category of adverse side affects, it is a draw.

In the battle of the high cholesterol reducing medications I would go with Zocor. Zocor is practically just as effective as Lipitor but offers it for a much lower price. To order Zocor or Lipitor for even more savings, go to www.epharmacies.com. This website offers safe reliable sources to find medications such as Zocor and Lipitor at discount prices.
