Fish Oil Is Brain Fuel

By David McEvoy

Most people will have heard that fish is good for the brain but not everyone understands just why the fatty acids found in fish are so important, and are still unaware of what happens if they don't get enough in their diet.

A healthy brain relies on Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These long chain polyunsaturated Omega 3 fatty acids are the building blocks of the brain itself and are only found in any significant quantities in oily fish and of course fish oil. The other Omega 3 fatty acid is Alpha linolenic acid (ALA), which can be found in some vegetable oils, nuts and plants however, we cannot easily convert this into EPA and DHA which means we have to source these two directly from fish.

Most health professionals believe that DHA is the fatty acid that is most important for healthy structure and development of the brain and for vision so it is vital that there is enough DHA in the diet during pregnancy and in the first few years of a child's life. EPA on the other hand, is essential for healthy functioning of the brain on a day to day basis, which means that throughout your life you need a constant supply of EPA.

Sadly, for most people, this just isn't happening as our diets tend to be rich in Omega 6 fatty acids and poor in fish sources of Omega 3. Omega 6 is abundant in vegetable oils, processed foods, meats and dairy products. Furthermore, if the brain cannot get the fatty acids it needs it will rely on replacement fatty acids that just aren't cut out for the job. It's a bit like putting the wrong fuel in your car and expecting it to run smoothly. Many health professionals are now attributing a number of diseases and health problems to the imbalance between Omega 3 and Omega 6 in our diets and this view is backed up by an increasing number of clinical trials and studies.

If we relate this to mental health for example, people with depressive disorders, ADHD, bipolar disorder, memory problems, Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, have been found to have low concentrations of Omega 3 in their blood along with a high ratio of Omega 6. Why would this have such an impact? Well, every second of our lives we are converting fatty acids into eicosanoids. Eicosanoids are hormone-like compounds that control every physiological function in the body and depending on what fatty acids are available, for example Omega 3 or Omega 6, the eicosanoids will either be anti-inflammatory or pro-inflammatory.

Omega 6 fatty acids are known to be pro-inflammatory, they help the blood to clot, and promote tumour growth. Omega 3 fatty acids do exactly the opposite so it isn't hard to imagine that a diet too rich in Omega 6 and too poor in Omega 3 can have a devastating effect on both physical and mental wellbeing.

Of course if a lack of Omega 3 fatty acids can result in depression and other conditions affecting the brain then it stands to reason that increasing intake of Omega 3 might offer some therapeutic value to help treat these conditions and this is exactly what research has found. However, it must be remembered that adequate amounts of Omega 3 should be present in the diet in the first place and if this was happening, there might be fewer mental health problems today. Let's have a look at a small sample of studies showing how Omega 3 fatty acids contribute to a healthy brain.

How Omega 3 makes a difference to brain health

• Research by the University of Western Australia found that women who took fish oil supplements during the latter part of their pregnancy had babies with better hand to eye coordination, were better speakers and could understand more at the age of two and a half, than babies whose mothers who were given olive oil instead

• A study by Aberdeen University and led by professor Lawrence Whalley found that fish oil helps the brain to work faster, increases IQ scores and slows down the ageing process.

• The Durham trials led by Dr Madeleine Portwood have consistently found that fish oil improves behaviour, concentration and learning in the classroom.

• One study by researcher Natalie Sinn in Australia found fish oil to be more effective than Ritalin for ADHD.

• Hibbeln et al looked at diet in 22 countries and found an association between low fish consumption and postnatal depression.

• Here in the UK, Dr Malcolm Peet found that ethyl-EPA, a highly concentrated form of Omega 3, dramatically reduces depression.

Conclusion

The research continues and no doubt we will be hearing more about the wonders of Omega 3 and its effect on brain power in the future. In the meantime, there is sufficient evidence to show that every single one of us can benefit by increasing the amount of Omega 3 we have in our diet. Eating more fish is a possibility but not advisable due to toxins and other pollutants in our fish. However, concentrated high-grade fish oil is a perfectly feasible and much safer way of getting enough Omega 3 to give your brain the best chance of staying oiled up and in good working order.

Heartburn Causes

By Achi Amaechi

Heartburn is a situation where irritation occurs as a result of a reflux – when the stomach acid backs up and comes in contact with the lining of the esophagus. This condition is normally experienced after eating. For every effect, there is a cause, and for every motion, there is a corresponding force. Heartburn causes can differ greatly from persons.

Modern lifestyles and the pleasures they come along with equally bring to us some negative effects that we may not be aware of. Lets quickly walk through some of the commonest causes of heartburn.

There is a muscle, a valve called "the lower esophageal sphincter" (LES) it functions as: (i) Controls the opening between the esophagus and the stomach and (ii) Keeps stomach acid in the stomach, prevent reflux When this valve or muscle is weakened or relaxed, heartburn definitely will occur. From observation and research, this is the greater form of Gastro esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) of which heartburn is part.

Weakening of this muscle can be caused by intake of Nicotine. Products that contain nicotine are cigarettes, coffee, kola nuts etc

Diets – the choice of food of each individual makes up what he/she is comprised of. Consumption of lots of fatty foods, alcohol, sugar, chocolate and fried foods can also weaken the lower esophageal sphincter

The frequency of food intake can also allow for heartburn. An expert advised that you could eat smaller meals rather than eat three large ones. When the stomach is stuffed, it can cause much concentration of stomach acid, which would in turn allow for heartburn reflux.

Eating immediately before bedtime

Much pressure on the stomach.

Exercises that exert pressure on the stomach are frequent wearing of tight clothes, lifting and bending over. Too much of food intake can also cause excess production of stomach acid

Stress – continuous feeling that prevents relaxation.

Understanding Irritable Bowel Syndrome

By Robert Scheer

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is not an illness like a cold or the flu which an individual suddenly contracts and, although the symptoms are unpleasant, they usually diminish over time and ultimately go away. IBS, on the other hand, is more of a chronic problem, with either symptoms of diarrhea or constipation that continues for a prolonged period of time. Other names for Irritable Bowel Syndrome include spastic colon, mucous colitis, nervous stomach, irritable colon and spastic colitis.

IBS is not only a problem for the estimated 10% to 20% of the general population who suffer from its symptoms; it is also a significant problem for their employers. In general, IBS sufferers have significantly higher rates of lost working days -- three times as many sick days used -- as people with regular bowel habits.

Despite the scope of the problem, the cause of Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms is not something upon which the medical establishment agrees. There is no consensus about whether the disorder is caused by abnormal functioning of the muscles in the digestive system, or the nerves that control those muscles. Whether due to malfunctioning motor nerves, sensory nerves, or a combination of both, the fact remains that individuals with IBS suffer from a malfunction of their intestines that causes them either to be too active or not active enough. Additional symptoms among some people with IBS are excessive gas, bloating, stomach or intestinal cramps, and pain. Another symptom of IBS is the feeling following a bowel movement that evacuation has not been complete. In some cases, IBS patients also report conditions that are not associated with the digestive system, including headaches, pain in the lower back, arthritis and pains in the chest that do not involve the heart.

People with IBS at first are affected by the annoyance of the symptoms. Especially those with frequent diarrhea or flatulence sometimes have to limit their activities so that they cannot attend social events or travel unless they can be assured of always having a toilet nearby. But prolonged IBS can be more than an inconvenience; it can lead to malnutrition, imbalance of body weight, an increase of toxins in the body, or other related consequences.

There is a new treatment for IBS that is available in two different formula combinations, one for those who suffer primarily from diarrhea, and a different one for people whose main digestive dysfunction is constipation. The product, Bowtrol, is formulated from 100% natural ingredients. It is available without a prescription and, unlike some prescription medications, it does not lead to unpleasant side effects. Both Bowtrol formulas include Lactospore Probiotic, which helps build and maintain healthy intestinal flora. The difference in the two formulas is that one addresses the problem of diarrhea with Colon Control, while the other treats constipation with Colon and Parasite Cleanser to provide gentle stimulation and regulation to the gastrointestinal tract.

Foods That are Good for Your Skin

By Mila Sidman Alice Seba

You can’t deny that you’re inundated with models every day. They’re on billboards, tv, and magazines. Have you ever noticed what all of them have in common? It’s not hair color, race, or even size. Even the most unique models have beautiful, glowing skin. If you want to look great, you can’t overlook the most noticeable part of your body: your skin.

While people all over the world spend billions on dollars on skin care products every year, the easiest way to get great skin is by eating right. If you’re properly hydrated and nourished, it will show all over your body.

Water is the most important ingredient for healthy skin. We all know that drinking enough water will prevent dry skin, but it also washes away waste products and other harmful chemicals from cells. Without water, these toxins build up, and make skin look dull and unhealthy. Lack of water can also leave you looking puffy and bloated because cells try to hang on to the water they have. Be sure to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to keep skin glowing.

It’s also important to eat foods high in Vitamins A, C, and E. These are all powerful antioxidants. This means they fight off free radicals you’re exposed to through pollution and the sun. Since your skin takes the brunt of the damage from these sources, it important to have antioxidant protection if you want great skin.

To get enough of these nutrients, you need to have a variety of different foods in your diet. Vitamin A is found in eggs, milk, apricots, nectarines, spinach, and several orange vegetables. Try citrus fruits to get your boost of vitamin C. You can find Vitamin E in whole grains, green leafy vegetables, and certain fish. If what you eat isn’t enough, try a daily multivitamin to boost results.

Another key ingredient for beautiful skin is a diet high in fiber. Fiber is essential for cleaning toxins out of your digestive system so they don’t reach the rest of the body. You can get fiber naturally from whole grains, dried fruit, beans, and certain vegetables. Most people don’t get enough fiber, so upping your intake is probably a good plan regardless.

Sugar not only rots teeth and expands waistlines; it also hurts your skin. Excess sugar can cause skin to become less elastic and less firm. With time, skin becomes wrinkled and saggy. To avoid the symptoms of sugar withdrawal, try cutting your intake back slowly.

You’ve probably heard that there are good fats and bad ones. Eating more good fats will not only help you lose weight and feel better, it will help you look better too. Try to eat more omega-3 fats, which are found in coldwater fish and flaxseed and walnut oils. If you don’t think you can eat a lot of fish, you can supplement your diet with fish oil pills.

Not only can eating a healthy diet improve the quality of your skin, it can also improve the quality of your life. Eating right will help you feel better and live longer.

One Method to Battle the Bulge - A Look At Tummy Tuck Surgery

By Lloyd Krieger

People often focus their beauty ideals onto their stomachs instead of their faces, and it can be frustrating when a bulging belly ignores your active and healthy lifestyle. Although weight loss can be healthy, it will not necessarily lead to a smooth firm stomach. In fact, weight loss or recovery from multiple pregnancies will leave you with stretched skin that hangs and bulges.

If you are in this situation and truly want to attain a smoother contour for your abdomen, then tummy tuck surgery is worth considering. Abdominoplasty, better known by its cuter name the tummy tuck, is a major surgery that carries with it the normal risks associated with surgery. Serious complications are rare, however, and the results are generally pleasing and impressive.

What Happens During Tummy Tuck Surgery

A complete abdominoplasty takes about two to four hours to perform. The time range is so wide because body sizes and shapes vary and this determines how much time the procedure will take. To begin, the plastic surgeon will make a long incision along your lower abdomen from hip to hip. Every effort is made to place this incision in a place where the future scar will be hidden by underwear or bathing suits.

Next the plastic surgeon separates your abdominal skin from the underlying tissue and lifts it all the way up to your ribs. This action reveals the muscles underneath. The plastic surgeon will pull the muscles closer together and stitch them in order to create a firmer and flatter stomach. At Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery, when we do our Los Angeles tummy tuck we contour these muscles to create a nicer looking waist.

Once the muscles have been adjusted and secured into their new contour, your skin flap will be stretched over them. A new navel will also be created in the proper location and stitched into place. At Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery, we use this step to create our specialized Rodeo Drive Belly Button. Excess skin will be removed, which ends the problem of loose hanging skin and lessens bulging. Finally, the incision is stitched and dressed. If necessary, small tubes will be used for drainage.

The procedure is often done as an outpatient, and you can return home several hours following the tummy tuck surgery. It is very important that you get up and walk around following the surgery. This helps to alleviate swelling and lower your risk of blood clots. Typically, in the first days, you will not be able to stand entirely straight up, but this is temporary.

As you continue your recovery, you will be able to resume all normal daily activities within a few days. A supportive post-surgical garment will likely replace your dressings after a few days. Once a week or so goes by, your plastic surgeon will see you again, remove drains if they have been placed, and you will find you can do essentially all normal physical activities. The only remaining restriction will be no heavy lifting. Your surgeon may advise you not to do heavy lifting for six weeks or so following your tummy tuck.

If you are a good candidate, you may find that a tummy tuck in Los Angeles greatly improves your quality of life.

Heat Vs. Ice

By Jessica Heller, DC, CSCS

One of the most common questions I am asked by patients is whether they should use ice or heat on an injury. Both heat and ice improve healing by manipulating blood flow, reducing inflammation, and reducing pain. Knowing which one to use when, though, will keep you from possibly doing further damage.

Ice Treatment Ice should be used on acute injuries (injuries that have occurred within the last 72 hours.) Its aim is to limit the body’s response to the injury. It does this by reducing further bleeding into the injured tissues, preventing or reducing swelling, and reducing muscle spasm and pain.

Ice should also be used for chronic conditions (arthritis, tendonitis, overuse injuries in athletes), but after activity. This will help control the inflammatory response.

How to Apply IceThere are several methods for icing an injury. The first uses an ice pack. Place a thin layer of cloth over the injury, to avoid frostbite. Place the ice pack over the cloth. Leave the ice on for 20 minutes. It is normal to go through the phases of cold, burning, and then numbness. Do not leave the ice on for more than 20 minutes, or you can do more harm than good.

Another method of icing is ice massage. Freeze a paper or Styrofoam cup full of water, and then tear off the top rim to expose the ice. Move the ice continuously over the injury for 15 minutes.

Some athletic training rooms and therapy centers also have whirlpools with cold water in them. Submerging the injured area in the whirlpool will have the same effect as icing.

Ideally, ice on an acute injury should be applied every 2-3 hours.

Heat TreatmentHeat should be used for chronic injuries to relax and loosen the tissues and stimulate blood flow to the area. Heat should be used before activities, not after. Do not use heat after an acute injury. It will increase bleeding and make the problem worse.

How to Apply HeatMoist hot towels are the most effective form of heat treatment. They are more effective because the moisture keeps the area from drying out and becoming brittle. (Think of what a turkey would be like if it wasn’t basted.) Place a washcloth under hot tap water, or heat it up slightly in the microwave, and then apply it directly to the injured area. Heating pads will also work, as well as hot water bottles and soaking in a hot bath. Do not apply for more than 20 minutes at a time. Never fall asleep on a heating pad, and do not apply body weight to the heating pad (do not sit or lie on it.)

Newer on the market is low level heating wraps. Studies have shown these to have short-term benefits on pain. The majority of studies done that showed a benefit were on the knee, wrist, and lower back. They are not to be considered a long-term solution to an injury, as they merely mask the pain; therefore, they should be used in conjunction with a therapeutic exercise regimen to rehabilitate the injured area. They are very convenient for injuries of the extremities, as a person can put one on and continue with activity.

Combination Therapy48-72 hours after an injury, you can also use combination therapy to get the most benefit from both heat and ice. To do this, alternate hot and cold packs for 10 minutes each. By alternating, you keep the swelling under check with the ice, and keep blood and its nutrients circulating through the area with the heat. Be sure to always end with ice, so that the heat does not contribute to further swelling.

Permanent Weight Loss-Six Tips

By Dorothy M. Neddermeyer, PhD

Weight loss requires complete commitment to healthy living as well as thorough investigation of the underlying reason(s) for one’s excess weight.

Reasons for excess weight include:

• Emotional issues—Fear, Hidden anger, Resistance to forgive, Need for protection, Running away from feelings. Insecurity, Oversensitivity, Self-rejection. Seeking fulfillment, Childhood trauma—sexual abuse, corporal punishment and verbal abuse

• Diet high in carbohydrates

• Lack of exercise

• Thyroid imbalance

• Insulin imbalance

• Adrenal problems

• Water retention—kidney/heart malfunction (edema, phlegm accumulation)

• Weak digestive function

• Blood sugar swings (glycogen/insulin imbalance or hypoglycemic/diabetes)

There are a plethora of popular approaches to fast weight loss. These approaches include:

• Diuretic herbs or drugs to reduce water retention.

• Lipotropic vitamins or drugs that bind to cholesterol and fasts to prevent their absorption

• Appetite suppressants

As you probably already know and many have discovered before you, none of these methods leads to permanent weight loss. In fact, the symptomatic weight loss treatments described above can lead to further health imbalance. For example, losing weight quickly can suppress the immune system and strain organs such as the liver and kidneys. Some weight-loss products focus on thermogenesis (the body’s natural calorie burning process) These products contain ephedrine, which not only speeds up the body’s metabolism, but also raises blood pressure and increases the heart rate. This can be dangerous for some people.

Successful approaches to weight loss include:

• Eat regular, balanced meals (small meals 5 times/day)—30 percent fats, 30 percent proteins, 40 percent complex carbohydrates (vegetables, with some grains (no wheat). This practice coupled with “Eat Right for Your Type” by Peter D'Adamo is a clear, simple food plan for each blood type that anyone can follow. For example there is a direct connection between stress, autoimmune disorders and red meat in the Type B system. I can attest to this research. Long before “Eat Right for Your Type” was published, I discovered red meat caused me to feel stressful due to pain in my stomach and nerve endings. It felt like my stomach lining and nerve endings had been scraped until they were raw. I discovered this pain was prevalent after eating red meat, thus, I stopped eating red meat and the pain in my stomach and nerve endings ceased. Many years later without knowing my blood type, I read “Eat Right for Your Type” and wondered if my blood type was B. After checking my blood type, I was not surprised to discover my blood type is B positive.

The process of changing your eating habits might seem insurmountable. However, consider the end result and the effort is worth any falsely perceived difficulty.

• Walk outside or on the treadmill at least 10 minutes after eating the evening meal.

• Take specific proven herbal compounds before each meal to increase metabolism and to assist in releasing fat and curb water retention.

• Take specific nutritional supplements for the thyroid and adrenal gland, both crucial to the weight-loss process.

• Have acupuncture treatments to help balance the organ systems (pancreas, live, endocrine function), to reduce cravings and curb the appetite (ear acupressure is available for those who fear needles).

• Hypnotherapy is imperative if you have a strong underlying emotional cause for excess. How does one determine if one has a strong underlying emotional cause? The answer is simple—if you did not have a strong underlying emotional cause, you would not have gained excessive weight.

Losing and maintaining one’s ideal weight requires an earnest commitment to healthier living. The end result—feeling and looking better—is well worth the effort.

Allergies - The Silent Intruders or Nature of Body Reaction?

By Edward Xu

Speaking about allergy, who will able to tell you more than the one who have been through the nightmares themselves? As long as we are human being who shares the similar genetic codes, to have dna inheritance of both our father and mother, there will always a possibility of getting allergy, skin disorder or acne.

And looking back to allergy itself, whether it is common one or a rare allergy disease, the existence of this particular disease in human being history has been a long-long time.

Allergy can exist in many forms, it could present in skin allergy, nose allergy, eyes allergy, noise allergy, or perhaps even sounds allergy.

The word “allergy” itself has a derivative meaning of: “reverse reaction”. Sound as its meaning, allergy could be as simple as contra reaction of our body to the external factors such as: heat, food, medicine, sounds, noise, etc.

Combination of allergy could be a whole lot more complicated than it seems. One person might have a combination of allergy to heat, food, and medicines.

In contrary, the cause of the allergy could only be of one source: D-N-A. Without special pattern on the genetic codes, a person would not be that easily attacks by allergy sickness.
Only if the genetic pattern exist in such a way, will the sickness easily occur and reside on the long journey of the particular human being. It coexist in the pattern and thus inherit to their heir.

Hence, what cause the beginning of such genetic pattern that cause allergy sickness itself? The answers might just as blur as the history of human kind. You might say it’s inherit from a Monkey (Darwinian Theory), or perhaps from outer planets (human was alien beings)? Or perhaps, the simple theory of mind power: the certain kind of thinking patterns that actually causes all the changing of genetic patterns?

But, despite all those annoying theories and arguments, should there be really a cure for allergy, skin disorder and acne problems?

The answers lies upon ourselves, do we believe, one day, with the advanced medical technology, the ill pattern of allergic patient be cured holistically? Or should there be any other simple way to help us prevent the occurrence or provide holistic remedy to combat the allergy itself?

Antibiotic, as a medication might just be another cause of allergy…

So, what do we suppose to do? Sit down and anxiously hope that allergy would cure by itself?

The answers may depends on your believe, your attitude to search for the best remedies on the market, thus any one have a good natural remedies to combat allergy?

As far as I have seen on the internet, there are thousands of articles on allergy, medicines, and alternatives cures, but which one offer us the best remedy that fits to our circumstances? This will be the important part, as we just know our era is information over-loaded era, too much information to riddle, yet too little time to digest all the vast information available. Our live just too short for things like that. Won’t you agree with me?

But until recently, I just found another living guy, who’s name quite popular as a nutritionist. His fascinating e-books and plain explanation about the process of our immune system will amaze its readers.

Five Step Action Plan to Get Rid of Belly Fat Fast

By Abi Shaan

Losing belly fat has become a big dream for millions of people all over the world, because according to current stats, weight loss has become a multi BILLION industry. And why do people need to lose weight? Mostly because they want to get rid of belly fat or the love handles or finally to get to see their own FEET!

In this article I am going to show you 5 easy steps that will easily get you on track and get rid of those love handles and get a tight belly in no time.

Step 1:

Nutrition

The first and most important step is to control your nutrition. No matter how hard you workout, you need to give your body the proper input. A car running on petrol won’t run on water. In the same way, giving your body the wrong nutrition can have adverse effects to whatever you do, no matter how many hours of cardio you do or how many Ab crunches you do. If you want to get things in perspective concerning your belly fat situation, then you need to feed your body with the proper input at the proper time. Eg: more lean protein, frequent glasses of water, fruits and vegetables etc..

Step 2:

Meal Plan

This goes along with the nutrition when it comes to importance. In order to get your body ultra fat burning mode, you need to prevent your body from entering starvation mode. This does not mean barging into food all at once. You need to feed your body a maximum of 350-500 calories every three hours or so. Remember; if your body gets no input for more than four hours, your body will assume that you are fasting and it will enter starvation mode, which means your body will be storing all the fat instead of burning them. So BE AWARE of your meal frequency which should be a minimum of five short meals a day.

Step 3:

Training

In order to get rid of belly fat, you need to burn the entire fat all over your body. A guy will flabby arms and gigantic thighs cannot have a six pack. You get me? Hope so. Nutrition and Meal plan do 50% of the fat loss work for you. But weight training or Bodyweight Training help improve your fat loss progress. Every single pound of Muscle added to your body helps burn an extra 35 calories everyday. That’s 3.7 pounds of fat loss per year on autopilot. By training your body with the goal to add muscle, that’s by working your major muscles like the chest, back, legs at a repetition range of 8-12 reps, 3 sets each with a slow tempo of 3-1-2. [Three seconds at the hard part of the movement, 1 second at the peak, and 2 seconds on return].

Step 4:

Cardio

As much as you don’t like to hear the word cardio, you need to do cardio right AFTER Step 3 because after your workout, your body will be flushing the glycogen [That’s a good thing], which means you can take advantage of it by doing cardio to put the extreme touch on fat burning process. By flushin on glycogen means, your body has used up all the energy, and is now gonna pull out the fat to be used as energy. So doing cardio now will make you happy because you know you are burning the fat.

Now I know Cardio is boring, and according to recent research, an idea used in the 1980’s called HIIT has now become very popular in the fat loss industry because High Intensity Interval Training lets you take your body beyond the normal Fat Burning Zone into gasping for air zone, which is good because the more your body gasps your air, the more oxygen sucked in by your body, and more fresh blood to boost up the fat loss.

HIIT works best with Treadmill, Sprinting, Mountain Sprinting, Body weight Intervals and a Stationary Bike. Visit my site: http://TruthAboutFat.Blogspot.Com for samples of HIIT.

Step 5:

Core Training

As much as it is important to lose fat all around the body, if you don't have a strong core, you wont see those strong abs. In order to achieve a that tight and firm belly fat, you need to do a couple of exercises for your core. This simply means your abs, but a deeper version. Doing hundreds of Ab Crunches won’t work. A few core exercises like Planks, Ab curl ups, Spiderman Climbers, Mountain Climbers etc.. will do the trick. 8 to 10 reps of three sets each.

Action!

If you just sit on the couch reading hundreds of books and articles on how to lose fat without actually putting them into action, you are not going to reach anywhere. READING how to drive a car won’t help you reach your destination. You need to actually DRIVE it..!

So use these five steps into action right now without fail, and I promise you that if you follow the exact guidelines provided in this action plan, you are going to be smiling wide in four weeks!

Using Natural Antibiotics

By Steven Godlewski

In today's world, germs are getting smarter - and they are outsmarting modern medicine in a very scary way. You may have heard of all the recent outbreaks of Staph Infections around the world. This staph is literally building a resistance to antibiotics. It is an epidemic, and it can lead to death.

Due to this epidemic, research has stepped up in the area of antibiotics. What scientists have found is that pure silver is essential to life. Pure silver is a naturally occurring substance, and drug producers, such as Life Force International have been able to put pure silver in liquid form, to be used as a natural antibiotic.

Scientists have discovered that while most antibiotics only disinfect about a half dozen germs, silver disinfects hundreds. Furthermore, germs are unable to build a resistance to pure silver, making it a much needed and essential natural antibiotic. Silver also is useful in fighting over 650 bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites.

Furthermore, prescription antibiotics, that are chemically manufactured, have awful side effects that are often worse than the condition that they were designed and prescribed to treat. Pure silver, on the other hand, has no side effects, and it can be used by adults, children, and even pets.

The human body naturally contains silver, although it isn't very much. The average human body has .001 microns of silver. When that level drops, illness occurs. Life Force International offers Colloidal Silver in liquid form, and it can be taken indefinitely without worrying about germs or microorganisms becoming immune to it.

While antibiotics kill germs by poisoning them, Colloidal Silver literally smoothers them by cutting the air supply between the germs and the enzymes that they need to survive and grow. This is why germs cannot become immune to Colloidal Silver - the silver isn't fighting the germ the way that other antibiotics do, it is simply outsmarting it.

Even minute amounts of silver are effective in killing more than 640 different disease causing pathogens. Therefore, Colloidal Silver can be used to treat illnesses, and to prevent illnesses from occurring.

Colloidal Silver can be used internally and externally. When used internally, it is important to increase your intake of water, so that the dead pathogens can be effectively flushed from the body. It is also important that Colloidal Silver not come into contact with other metals. It should be taken with a plastic spoon, syringe, or medicine cup.

Externally, Colloidal Silver can be applied directly to cuts, burns, cold sores, open sores, and other injuries. It is also effective on mosquito bites, acne, dandruff, athlete's foot, sore throat gargles, rashes, and eczema. It can even be used as drops for the eyes and ears, and sprayed in the nose for sinusitis.

Colloidal Silver also has household uses. It can be used to prevent mildew and to sterilize cooking surfaces. It can even be sprayed on the leaves of unhealthy plants to improve their condition. It should be stored in a dark glass spray bottle for household use.

What Is Social Anxiety?

By M. Jedediah

Who among us has never been in a large group of people and felt timid, nervous, and even downright terrified? Feelings such as these can happen from time to time, especially if we are a generally shy person. But when feelings of fear and panic are present in all situations such as these, you may be exhibiting signs of social anxiety – persistent and severe heightened fear and panic in social situations. When these feelings take over and begin to impact the way in which you socialize and engage in personal relationships, it is thought that treatment can significantly benefit the way in which we manage these overwhelming feelings.

Social anxiety is defined as feelings of fear or panic in anticipation of social situations – or while participating in social situations. These psychological feelings that people are judging you or you are under a microscope can lead to physical symptoms that may include increased heart rate, difficulty breathing, sweating, shaking, headache, and diarrhea, among others. While social anxiety is considered an occurrence, social anxiety disorder falls within the umbrella of anxiety disorder that encapsulates everything from generalized anxiety disorder to obsessive-compulsive disorder, and phobias.

A diagnosis of social anxiety disorder is generally made when there is ongoing and persistent feelings of panic and apprehension associated with commonplace social situations; daily life is thwarted by these feelings of anxiety and the sufferer sees the ramifications in their relationships – familial, platonic, and romantic. People who experience this type of anxiety feel as if their every move is being watched and they are convinced that they will humiliate themselves in a room full of people. Often the fear is so palpable that all social interaction is avoided in order to avoid the feeling.

In fact, for anyone who has ever experienced stage fright while performing in front of a group of people, the feelings associated with social anxiety are much the same thing. Those who suffer from this type of anxiety feel in a constant state of stage fright whenever they are in social situations – as if they are expected to perform.

Not surprisingly, those who suffer with this anxiety – and are not aware of the magnitude or definition of what they are managing - will often attempt to self-medicate with alcohol or drugs during social engagements. Such substances often have the ability to lower inhibitions enough that sufferers can mange their social time without feeling incapacitated. But this is hardly the safe or effective way to treat anxiety.

Treating this anxiety can be done in a number of ways. Cognitive-behavioral therapy with a licensed and reputable therapist teaches the patient how to rewire their thoughts and change their behaviors associated with the source of anxiety. Often there is a certain amount of exposure therapy wherein the patient is introduced to sources of anxiety – but in a controlled and safe environment. The hope is that continued exposure with positive outcomes will eventually desensitize the patient from this type of anxiety.

Medication is also available that treats a wide variety of anxiety. Your doctor is best in the position to determine what medication may work for you and will monitor your progress. In most cases, a combination of therapy and medication works most successfully in treating social anxiety.

A Guide To A Healthy Digestive Track And A Healthy You

By Bill Healey

Everywhere you turn these days, you see reports from this doctor or recommendations from that doctor to add more fiber into your diet. There are specialists on news programs singing the praises of substituting more fruit into your afternoon snack instead of that doughnut. You even find an article from a scientific journal which claims you need to consume a certain amount of fiber and vitamins everyday in order to live past 60. What’s true and what isn’t?

With all of these different surveys and reports, it leaves the regular person questioning what they really need to eat to be healthy. Well, the good news is that the answer isn’t difficult at all. The truth is you just need to maintain a balanced diet of healthy foods. True, fiber is an important part of your eating habits, but it shouldn’t be the only thing on the menu. For maximum digestive health, try to:

• Eat plenty of fiber – This is the “Golden Rule” to any diet which claims to be digestively healthy. Foods containing fiber, fruits, vegetables and whole grains, pass more easily and quickly through the digestive tract. Fiber gives stool bulk and also softens it, which helps prevent constipation, diarrhea and symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. A fiber-rich diet may also play a part in lowering your risk of colon and rectal cancer.

• Reduce fat and oils – Excess fat slows digestion, leading to problems like heartburn, bloating and constipation. A high-fat diet may also worsen the symptoms of conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, pancreatitis and Crohn's disease. A diet high in saturated fat will increase your risk of colon cancer.

• Drink ample fluids – Fluids lubricate food waste so that it passes easily through your digestive tract. Fluids also soften stool, helping to prevent constipation. They dissolve minerals, vitamins and other nutrients, making them easier for tissues to absorb. Water is best, but milk, juice, and other beverages made up of more than 90 percent water can help meet your daily fluid needs.

Need some ideas for high-fiber meals and snacks that might work for you? Try one or a more of these suggestions:

• Start your day off with a high-fiber breakfast cereal with 5 or more grams of fiber per serving. Try to go with cereals having "bran" or "fiber" in the name.

• Change to whole-grain breads listing whole wheat, whole-wheat flour or another whole grain as the first ingredient on the label.

• Use whole grain flour instead of white flour when baking bread. Whole grain flour is heavier than white flour.

• Eat more whole grains and whole grain products. Experiment with brown rice, barley, and whole-wheat pasta.

• Eat ready-to-use vegetables. Mix chopped frozen broccoli into prepared spaghetti sauce or snack on baby carrots.

• Eat more beans, peas and lentils. Put kidney beans into a canned soup or a green salad.

• Eat some kind of fruit at every meal. Apples, bananas, oranges, pears and berries are great sources of fiber.

• Fresh and dried fruit, raw vegetables, and low-fat popcorn and whole grain crackers are all good choices for a snack.

Seek the opinion of your doctor before following of any diet treatment and regiment. Only a doctor can provide you with advice on what is safe and most effective for you.

Vitamins That Help Fight Heart Disease

By Linda Polansky

Cholesterol is a major contributor to stroke and heart disease
problems, and people routinely take vitamins and minerals that
help to fight heart disease and reduce cholesterol levels in
the body. Some of these vitamin supplements are strictly
cholesterol formulas, and other vitamins that help fight heart
disease are offered in natural and pill form in individual
varieties.

The cholesterol categories for vitamins that help fight heart
disease are artichoke, blood pressure, garlic, guggul,
lecithin, policosinol, black tea, grapefruit pectin, and plant
sterols. Other vitamins that help fight heart disease might
focus solely on providing heart support. If a person purchases
red yeast rice products, then they are consuming vitamins that
help fight heart disease.

Artichoke is an herbal treatment that has been use to treat
high cholesterol and triglycerides. As one of the vitamins that
help fight heart disease, studies have found that artichoke herb
taken in the amount of 900 to 1920 mg per day will lower
cholesterol with no known side effects. This herb is an
alternative that people on fixed incomes can use to help lower
their prescription costs in any given month.

A traditional part of Chinese medicine is the use of garlic, as
a vitamin that helps fight heart disease. Garlic will also offer
people a good medicine to reduce the risk of stomach, esophageal
and colon cancers. Garlic is also an anti-biotic medicinal herb
that helps fight the common cold, high cholesterol, ear
infections and even athlete’s foot.

Other vitamins that help fight heart disease by reducing high
cholesterol are guggul, tree resin that comes from the mukul
myrrh tree. Myrrh was one of the gifts of the Three Wise Men at
the birthplace of Jesus Christ. It is used to treat acne, high
triglycerides, high cholesterol, osteoarthritis and obesity.

People that are taking hormone replacement therapy might also
benefit from vitamins that help fight heart disease. Hormone
replacement therapies have been proven to reduce cholesterol in
women when additional intake of Vitamin D is included into the
diet. This can be through the form of drinking milk or taking a
Vitamin D capsule or tablet.

Women on hormone replacement therapy should avoid taking
grapefruit supplements or eating grapefruit in any form because
the grapefruit juices significantly increases the levels of
estradiol in the blood and reduces other forms of estrogen in
the body that people get through their hormone replacement
therapy. When this occurs, there are side effects that could
create significant problems in a woman’s fight against
osteoporosis.

Other vitamins that help fight heart disease include nutrional
supplements such as beta-glucan,
beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB), fiber, Glucomannan,
soy, and niacin, pantethine, and vitamin C in strictly those
varieties only. Other than taking vitamins that help fight
heart disease and cholesterol in the blood vessels, people
might need to completely change their dietary habits.

By reducing the consumption of beef, pork, veal, and poultry
people find that they need to take fewer vitamins that help
fight heart disease. Changing to skim milk, and yogurt, and
purchasing nonfat cheese products will greatly help people in
their fight against developing heart problems.

About Heart Attack and Its Warning Signs

By Groshan Fabiola

Often heart attack is slowly with mild pain and the person in cause doesn’t understand what’s happening, on the other hand the heart attack might be intense and movie-like. If you suspect you are having an heart attack than you need to call the emergency or 911.

The most common signs are: chest discomfort which may be felt as pain, pressure, squeezing, fullness and which may last for minutes. Other symptoms are: pain in both arms, neck, stomach, back, shortness of breath, nausea, cold sweating. The most common symptoms in heart attack in women is discomfort and chest pain, but it may also appear as well nausea, shortness of breath and back pain. In 5 minutes since those symptoms have begun one must address to the emergency medical service at 911. If you announce the ambulance you’ll receive the best care against heart attack and in the shortest time. You should’t be driving by yourself unless you have no other option.

The doctor will diagnose the heart attack after studying several tests: EKG a device that gives the graphical record of the heart’s electrical activity, a physical examination and knowing the complete medical history of the patient, high enzymes in the blood appear in heart attack, those steps are also helpfull. Cardiac enzymes may be determined later in the intensive care unit and urgent care setting so they confirm or infirm the suspicions.

So, if you address as quickly as possible to a medical emergency or service you have greater chances of receiving the corresponding treatment and the doctor will have the possibility to establish exactly what you suffer from, sometimes heart attack symptoms are very similar to other disease symptoms and may be mistaken. That’s why is indicated to present to the hospital and have EKG done and blood analysis and so on. If you get help during that first hour, your chances of recovery are greatly improved. Many heart problems are silent, without symptoms, and go unnoticed until they become the cause of sudden death. And most victims are older men.

Heart attack is one instance where getting treatment promptly can mean the difference between life and death. Heart attacks may vary from person to person, and from heart attack to heart attack. A great mistake is the delaying the treatment and the presentation to the hospital. Heart discomfort is rarely a sharp, stabbing pain. But further ischemia or another heart attack, even a mild to moderate one, may prove fatal because that reserve capacity is no longer there.

Risk factors include some you can't control: your age, sex and genetic predisposition to atherosclerosis and those you can influence, like diabetes, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, smoking, lack of exercise and obesity.

Streptococcal Pharyngitis - The Symptoms That Appear And The Necessary Tests

By Groshan Fabiola

It was seen that 5-15% of adults and 15-30% of children may be affected by pharyngitis, caused by the bacteria group A streptococci.
Strep infections must be identified very quickly and treated with antibiotics at once. That is, because if not treated, the infection may lead to secondary complications, like rheumatic fever and glomerulonephritis. It is also important to remember that strep throat is very contagious, and can easily spread to close contacts.

In order to see if group A streptococci is the cause of the sore throat, the doctor will perform a rapid strep test, and then, he will know to prescribe the proper antibiotics to start the treatment. But there appear the possibility that the rapid test turns to be negative. In this situation, a culture to grow bacteria must be done. The results of this test are available in a few days, but it is known it has a higher accuracy then the rapid strep test.
There must be done this second test, because the doctor cannot exclude the possibility of strep throat, until the laboratory performs a culture.
The doctor will order this test, if there is present a sore throat and a fever, a swollen, tender neck, tonsils that appear red with white or yellow spots at the back of the throat, headache and loss of appetite.

It is known that strep throat spreads very easily from person to person, through contact with respiratory secretions. It was seen that flu can show similar symptoms like a strep throat, and we can mention here fever, chills, headache, sore throat, muscle pain.
It is necessary to see clearly if there is a flu or a strep throat. So, there must be performed some tests: rapid strep test, and a rapid influenza test. If these tests turn negative, and clinical signs warrant it, there may still be necessary a blood test that evaluates the patient’s white blood cells, and blood cultures may be drawn, to exclude the risk of sepsis. It is known that sometimes, the symptoms showed above can appear because of a serious acute illness, septicemia- that means bacteria growing in the blood.

Starting a correct therapy is a necessary thing, and that is why there must be done some tests, to see exactly what infection we are dealing with. The diagnosis must be accurate and prompt.
Many patients that are having streptococcal pharyngitis do not come to the doctor for treatment. They will recover as well, without antibiotic medication, but it is important to know that they will be contagious for a longer period of time, and they present an increased risk for developing complications.

Usually, strep throat appears in children aged 5 up to 10 years old. It is important to know that there are about 20% of the school children that have the bacteria, show no symptoms, but they can spread the infection to others.

Dandruff Remedy - Easy and Effective Herbal Treatments

By Dr John Anne

Dandruff, also called seborrheic dermatitis is an itchy, flaky and persistent skin disorder of the scalp, without redness. It results when the scalp sheds dead skin cells in large numbers. Dandruff appears as dry, white or greyish flakes usually on the top of the head.

It is normal to continuously shed some dead skin flakes, as the skin is constantly renewing itself. With dandruff, this whole process of skin renewal speeds up, so a greater number of dead cells get shed. In addition, the cells are shed in clumps, which are big enough to be seen with the naked eye as embarrassing flakes. The scalp may also feel slightly itchy.

Dandruff is a very common problem and 90% of the people around the world ail from it at some point in their lives. It can occur at any age, but is most likely in the early 20s. When it occurs in newborns and infants, dandruff is termed as cradle cap.

Although not dangerous, dandruff can be quite embarrassing. It causes a lack of confidence and self-esteem.

Possible causes of dandruff:

Internal causes -

• Hormonal imbalance because dandruff usually starts after puberty and is more common in men than women.

• For unknown reasons, people with some illnesses, such as Parkinson’s disease, are more likely to have dandruff

• Anxiety

• Oily scalp

• Family history – hereditary

• Food allergies

• Excessive sweating

• Faulty eating habits. – fried foods, fats, sugar

External causes –

• Frequent use of strong hairsprays, gels, dyes.

• Inadequate cleansing/rinsing of scalp/ hair after shampooing

• Use of lotions that contain alcohol

Treatment of dandruff:

Dandruff is a natural process. Elimination takes time, but you can manage and control it. Treatment of dandruff is directed at fighting the skin inflammation. This is done either directly, by using cortisone-based creams and lotions (which reduce inflammation), or by reducing the yeast that builds up on scaly areas and adds to the problem.

# Keep the hair and scalp clean, to decrease the accumulation of dead cells. Wash frequently so that flakes do not build up.

# The hair should be brushed daily to improve the circulation and remove any flakiness.

# Massage the scalp daily using the fingertips and working systematically over the head. This stimulates the circulation, dislodges dirt and dandruff and helps in the hair growth.

# Avoid spicy and greasy food because it helps dandruff to increase and spread. Add more fresh and green vegetables and fruits to the diet. Have a balanced diet containing lots of vitamin A, B6, B12. Avoid intake of fried foods, sugar, chocolates and nuts.

# Strong tea and coffee, processed foods should be avoided for dandruff.

What shampoo to use to treat dandruff?

There is no official branded shampoo for dandruff. Doctors usually recommend Nizoral, a medicated shampoo available only in drug stores as an anti-dandruff shampoo. It is medically proven and the effect is long lasting.

You have to try and find out which one is successful at controlling your dandruff. Some commonly available anti-dandruff shampoos in the market are Head & Shoulders, Clinic, Pantene Pro-V etc. Use a mild shampoo.

Some myths about dandruff –

Moisturizing the hair helps control dandruff. Infact, moisturizing lotions don't do much more than smooth out scales and make patches look redder.

Switching brands of shampoo helps control shampoo. Shampoo doesn't cause dandruff.
Dandruff is due to dryness of the skin. Dandruff occurs in areas where the grease glands of the skin are most active, and the skin is not usually dry.

Changing hair care routine helps control dandruff. There is no "right" shampoo or conditioner. There isn't even a "correct" number of times to shampoo per week.

Dandruff is contagious. One cannot ‘catch’ dandruff from someone else, such as by using his brush or comb.

Natural home made remedies -

# Rub onion onto scalp. Onions are high in sulphur, which is essential for a healthy scalp.

# Avoid dyeing hair, unless an absolute must. We all have bacteria on our scalp, some of which are beneficial. This ‘good’ bacteria prevent dandruff yeast, and hair dyes reduce their numbers.

# Garlic whether eaten or applied externally is excellent for fighting dandruff.

# Apple cider vinegar (diluted with equal amount of water) when massaged onto scalp helps curb dandruff. It is a natural antiseptic.

# Lemon juice or sour curd when applied onto scalp is also useful.

# Fenugreek seeds – ground into a fine paste, applied onto scalp, and left for half an hour.

# Juice of bitter gourd when massaged with oil onto scalp relieves dandruff.

# Boil some neem leaves in 4 teacups of water. After cooling and filtering, use for washing hair.

Treatment for dandruff is not a one-time affair. Dandruff comes back, if regular care on a daily basis is not taken.

Consult a doctor if your scalp is red and itchy – or if the skin is flaky around the eyebrows, round the nose or behind the ears – because this suggests you might be having a more severe form of seborrhoeic dermatitis.

Eczema Home Remedy With Ice Therapy

By Evelyn Lim

An excellent home remedy for eczema is with the use of ice therapy. Ice has many cooling beneficial effects on your eczema skin. Eczema can be caused by allergens that inflame the skin. Applying ice onto an inflammation is like using water to douse the flames of a fire.

Eczema is a disorder that triggers rashes to appear on the skin. These rashes mostly develop in the hands, back, and limbs. They can really cause you great discomfort as they can be extremely itchy. However, the more you scratch it, the worse the condition gets. You can also cause your skin to bleed and introduce bacterial infections through your open wounds.

Ice therapy for eczema numbs your sore skin, causing you to relax with pain relief. The coldness of ice makes your veins contract, cutting down circulation. Once you remove the ice, your veins will start to dilate. Blood is rushed into the area that you are treating. The blood carries necessary nutrients to allow your damaged skin tissues to heal.

All you have to do is to put a few pieces of ice cubes in an ice pack or a small plastic bag wrapped in towel. Place it directly above the itchy area and move the ice under the towel in a circular motion. Try to feel how the cold sensation slowly eliminates the itch. You may find that the itchiness intensifying rather than subsiding when you first apply the ice. Just bear it for an instant. Very shortly, you will be relieved of the itch. If you are having a multiple eczema outbreak, you can work on a few minutes on each affected area.

Ice therapy for eczema is a home remedy that is effective and yet very inexpensive. However, before you start to freeze ice for the use of this therapy, be aware of the following precautions:

1. You should not apply ice directly onto your inflamed skin. Always use a towel to wrap the ice. Also, keep the ice moving over your skin.

2. Commercial cold packs should be used on your skin with extra care as they are generally a lot colder than the ice that you make in your freezer.

3. Do not use ice therapy for longer than 15 minutes over any affected part. You do not want to damage the nerves here.

4. Lastly, you should not use ice therapy if you also have rheumatoid arthritis, cold allergic conditions, paralysis or if you have blood circulation problems.

10 Natural Remedies for Cold Sores You Can Try Out Today

By Robert H Black

Many natural remedies are readily available for cold sores. There have been many cases where they have been extremely effective in not only treating the symptoms but also the length and severity of the cold sore outbreak. However, one very important caveat – before starting to use one of these natural remedies it is absolutely vital that you discuss this first with your doctor. If you are currently taking prescriptive medicine, there may be a conflict which could exacerbate the problem. Please check with your doctor first!

Now having said that, do not be surprised if he or she is 100% behind your decision to try a natural alternative – indeed many doctors will advise their patients to try them as a first course of action before that has even occurred to the unfortunate sufferer themselves. With the massive expansion of the internet over the last few years, there is a huge amount of information exchange going on that just wasn’t there before.

In fact data studies have been made which conclude that natural remedies can cut the time period of suffering cold sores by an amazing 79%. Not only that, they can also avert the likelihood of further outbreaks in the future. The natural remedies keep the virus indefinitely inactive rather than killing it off outright. So, having established that there is no shortage of successful home remedies that will rapidly assist you in curing your cold sore outbreak, let’s list just 10 of them.

1) Tea Bags applied directly to the sore

2) Reishi mushrooms in supplement or powder form

3) Resveratrol cream (a natural compound from red grapes)

4) Astragalus – a popular herbal tonic originating from Chinese medicine

5) Lemon Balm cream

6) Wakame - a type of seaweed popular in Japan

7) Echinacea – or purple coneflower common to North America

8) Rhubarb and Sage cream

9) Bee Propolis – as the name suggests it is collected by bees

10) Lysine in supplement form (an essential amino acid)

You should be able to find most of the above from any good health food store. The above list is by no means conclusive, and results will vary from person to person. Some will work better than others, some may have no effect at all. However, various studies have shown significant success with them, hence their inclusion here.

Also potential new herbal remedies are being constantly tested so it is always worthwhile to keep up with the latest developments.

When A Lifestyle Becomes Anorexia Nervosa

Anorexia nervosa and bulimia are the most well-known eating disorders. Anorexia is found most frequently in young females between 15 and 30. Weight loss is the most visible sign of anorexia but there are many more. When a person is not clearly underweight then he or she is not considered to be anorexic in medical terms.

In today's society where celebrities and super models define the trends, it is is often misunderstood that many young people follow these trends with blind trust and admiration. There is no doubt that the current ideal is a slim body shape. Maintaining a healthy slim body weight is without question one of the best goals young people can have.

With the support of the media, the picture of the ideal body has shifted even more to a super slim body recently to a degree where it becomes dangerous. Eating habits are established which lead to serious eating disorders, malnutrition, starving and even death.

The ideal becomes obsession and with it comes the loose of control. While dieting being thin or admiring thin people is nothing bad, the anorexic person has already established a mental disorder which has taken control over her. An anorexic individual still believes to have control over eating habits and their life in general, but the opposite is true.

The wish to loose weight has become a life of its own. Although underweight the person continues to diet. The person still feels fat and overweight for reasons which can not be explained by facts anymore but with emotions only. The person has lost control and lives in a fictitious world.

Serious malnutrition is the consequence and if not treated then the person faces physical harm and even death. Anorexia nervosa has a high mortality rate with almost 10%.

Anorexia nervosa is a mental illness and has nothing to do with healthy dieting or maintaining a healthy lifestyle anymore. Eating healthy, loosing overweight, shaping the body can have very positive effects on our self image and self confidence. In addition we receive positive feedback from our friends and family.

It is important to keep the primary goal in mind, living healthy and enjoy life. Do not follow false ideals which lead nowhere but to illness and misfortune. Learn as much as you can about eating disorders to know the differences. Educate yourself instead of listening to others. There is nothing wrong in trying to achieve a slim, aesthetic body. But an anorexic body is.

Home Remedies to Prevent Foot Swelling During Pregnancy

By Dr John Anne

Among the many changes that occur during the pregnancy months of the female is the swelling of feet. The whole feet may swell up, or just some parts like the ankles or the shins may swell.

Swelling of the feet generally starts becoming apparent during the fifth month of the pregnancy, though this time limit can vary from one woman to another. It occurs due to the accumulation of fluids in the feet of the woman. Swelling of the feet can be painful to some women, due to which they may not be able to move about or do their normal work as the months pass on. In some women, the swelling of the feet is very temporary; it subsides when the woman takes rest for a while, or massages the feet.

This article tells some of the home remedies you can use when pregnant to prevent the swelling of feet.

Simple Remedies to Prevent and Treat Swelling of Feet during Pregnancy

- Drink a lot of water when you are pregnant. You must drink at least six to eight glasses of water per day. Water is the most natural therapy to flush out the excess toxins from the body. Thus, the water will expel all the toxic fluids of the body which would otherwise settle in the feet and cause them to swell. Drinking a lot of water could increase the frequency of urination in pregnant women, but that is actually a good sign, as urination is a way to expel the wastes from the body.

- Avoid remaining in a standing position for long periods of time. This gives direct access for the fluids to enter into the lower parts of the body and cause the feet to swell up.

- Hot temperatures are not good during pregnancy. Hot temperatures can reduce the water content of the body, due to which the proportion of the fluids increase proportionately in the body. Therefore, going out when there is a hot climate must be avoided as much as possible.

- It is a misconception that swelling of feet during pregnancy is caused by excessive intake of salty foods. Though over-intake of salt is definitely not good, eliminating salt totally from the diet also does not help. Salt must be taken in moderation. The same idea applies to spicy foods also.

- Keep your diet well-balanced. This is extremely important for a pregnant woman. If the diet is deficient in any kind of food, or if the woman takes the wrong kind of food, then there is more chance of undigested toxic wastes accumulating in the body, and causing the feet to swell.

- Do not wear tight trousers or jeans when you are pregnant, as this would increase the pressure on the legs. Instead, you could wear somewhat loose stockings or pantyhose to give good support to the feet.

- While sleeping, try to change your position frequently. Lying in a single position for a long time will increase the pressure on one side of the body and increase the chances of the feet getting swollen up. You can put some elevated support for the feet, such as propping them up on cushions or pillows, so that the fluid does not accumulate into the feet region.

- Here’s a recipe for preventing the swelling of feet during pregnancy. Take two cups of water and add a teaspoonful of palm sugar in it. Add two teaspoons of fennel seeds to it. Boil this mixture, till the volume reduces to half; i.e. only one cupful of water is left. Drink this mixture thrice in a day. It will help protect the feet from getting swollen.

- Add a few tablespoons of coriander in two cups of water. Boil this mixture till it reduces to half its quantity, i.e. to one cup. Drink this coriander decoction thrice in a day. It will prevent from swelling of feet during pregnancy. In order to improve the taste, you can add sugar and milk to it, so that it becomes like a herbal tea.

- The most important thing to prevent feet from swelling up during pregnancy is to keep them exercised often. Pregnant women tend to reduce their normal activities in the fear that it would harm the fetus. But in fact, the opposite is true. Walking for half an hour per day is ideal. Keep your feet moving about. This is a very sure way of preventing the accumulation of fluids in the feet.

- While sitting, do not press your legs by crossing them. Keep them free and separated so that there is no undue pressure on them.
